Reading in My Garden

A lovely morning to sit and have breakfast in my Garden.

I am reading "The Sewing Circle" ....again!

    Hi Jeannie,

    I have a question. Is there a name for the thing that looks like a buttonhole but isn't - it was used to distinguish male from female babies? I think it's near the collar on the front of a baby dress - probably used in Victorian days? Do you know what I mean? Thanks for any help.
