One gross (=12 dozen or 144 buttons) Circa 1915 Mother of Pearl Buttons on cards.
These buttons were made in Austria prior to World War I. Notice the buttons were hand sewn on the cards! See the Made In Austria stamp on the back of the card.
Each card has a letter to identify them in this picture.
This picture is for a fellow button lover who purchased a card at a market and has used them up. If you don't see a card of the buttons you have now, they are Gone, Gone, Gone! But they are all beautiful. All are in short supply. Some are shorter supply than others. I bought all of them the first time I saw them. I love them. I will try to get them for sale on my Web site sooner or later. They are going with me to market.
I love the old button cards. I would hate to see the buttons taken off them. They would be beautiful if you took 3 of them and put them in a shadowbox frame! I have a lot of the buttons like in your picture where they are loose. They are the ones I (sit down and take a deep breath, Jeannie) GLUED to a mirror frame! Have fun at market. Your sister, Kathy
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, They are also beautiful sewn on clothing!! A little world history right on that dress you made! Cool. Well, I am sure the mirror is pretty too! You know, I thought the same thing about a Button Card in a shadow box.
ReplyDeleteI can hear the angels singing at the sight of some many lovey buttons. Ahhhhhh.

I too, am a collector of antique buttons - my sewing room is full of them! I think you just inspired me to write a blog entry about my antique buttons and why they are so special to me! Thanks "sew" much for sharing your unique antique buttons!
ReplyDeleteMartha...I heard the angelic sounds also...gorgeous button pic :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful buttons! Love them all, I have been pea green over your button cards at market but never had the extra cash to feel ok with purchasing them.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing pics of them.
I too heard some angels singing.
Hi, Jeannie,
ReplyDeleteThis is the first blog I have ever commented to! I love your site and I am loving your button cars!! Will you be selling them on your store site anytime soon? I hope so and will be watching out for them in case you list them. Also...When do you think you will have the Circa 1920 Baby Gown Pattern available again? Love all your patterns...by far my favorite!!!
