Portrait of a Victorian infant by Henry Norman featured in the Dream Stitches Exhibit. Photo was from the collection of Joan and Thomas Gandy
In 1997, I was honored to be the Guest Curator for an exhibit of the Louisiana State University Textile and Costume Gallery. The exhibit provided a comprehensive look at infants clothing used in the late 1800s and early 1900s.Click on Photo to enlarge. Dream Stitches poem from Aunt Kate's Day-By-Day Book, 1937
This poem melts my heart. And it is just as true today!
That's why we love to stitch for Baby!

In addition to the display of clothing, I collected information about early sewing techniques and customs regarding infants to include in the exhibit. I named the exhibit "Dream Stitches: Baby's Layette" because of the poem shown above. Both the picture and poem were part of the Museum display. They were also included in the printed brochure. This wonderful exhibit ran for one year.
Co- Curators were Dr. Jenna Kuttruff and Pamela Rabalais Vinci. They did the work while I had all the fun of researching and designing the exhibit.
