Julie's Baby Gown and Bonnet

This is a family Gown from Julies husbands side.  Because it is entirely white it is a bit hard to see details.

The style of this baby gown looks very  French Acadian.

This sleeve was gathered at the top portion only and held in place with embroidery floss.

It doesn't really look like smocking.  But I   have to consider that  fabric gathered in this manner, secured with embroidery thread is smocking.

The matching Bonnet is sweet.  The Brim has lace insertion stitched to it,  secured with embroidery floss.  The floss looks like it is rayon.

Interesting that the inside of the Bonnet (and dress) are completely unfinished.

No attempt at all was made to neaten it up.

Crown of the Bonnet is finished also with tiny Baby Lace.

One of the most common mistakes when making baby clothes is to use a lace edging that is too wide. It diminishes the daintiness of the garment.

This sweet baby set is such an inspiration.  

Makes my fingers itch to copy it.
