Tucked Baby Gown

Pintucks seem like the hallmark of Baby Clothes.

I like the look of the totally tucked Yoke.  Tucks that go from one armhole to the other.

Notice that the tucks are not stitched too low on the yoke.  The general rule of thumb is not to stitch tucks below the underarm.

I like the Featherstitching on the Yoke (of course I do!)

And the  French Knots that are used to fill in the space between the tucks and Featherstitching.

I am also fond of the lace cuff on this dress, which is then trimmed with gathered lace edging.

But look at the inside of the garment.  

Totally unfinished!!

I am always a bit surprised when a garment that is elaborately embellished on the outside is rough and ugly on the inside.  No one even attempted to finish it.

But it is very common on old clothes.

Look at the back of this gown.  Every bit as lovely as the front.

This Baby Gown would look so sweet on a new baby.  If you want to make it, I would suggest using my pattern "Old Fashioned Baby Layette".  Use the Daygown that button in the back and the long sleeves.  Toot Sweet!
