Baby Gwen in Pretty Dress

Baby Gwen, what a doll! (click to enlarge photo)

Beautiful Baby Gwen is wearing an Old Fashioned Baby Dress made by her Mother, Wendy.   Wendy wrote  about making Gwen's dress on her blog Ivoryspring   and I thought you might want to vsit her and see what she did.  The dress is "Baby's Smocked Layette".  It has just a wee bit of smocking at the front and sleeves so it sews up quickly.  It was fashioned after a Vintage Dress I found.  It took some time before I was able to get the design just right, so it was pleater compatable but still retained the old fashioned look of the original.  I think I did it.

  1. Good morning, Jeannie. I am honored that you have used Gwen's in her smocked layette. She is dressed in her heirloom dresses a lot. One thing I still haven't quite figured out is how to keep the bonnet on her. She absolutely does not take the bonnet. Any advice is appreciated.

    Blessings!

  2. Bonnets are so pretty on a baby. Babies must be "Bonnet Trained"! Put a bonnet on baby from the very beginning, anytime they are out and about so they will not think anything about it. But never when they are alone and sleeping.

Good luck with Baby Gwen and her bonnets. Thank you for letting me show this pretty photo of Gwen!

  3. Jeannie, I have admired your work for such a long time.I have always had a dream to have my own brick and mortar fabric store. I was wondering if you had any advice for someone that shares your passion for fabric, lace and seeing children dressed in handmade creations. Thank You for sharing your talents with us. I look forward to reading your blog daily. May God bless you! April Showers

  4. April, Thank you for your nice thoughts. My advice is to sew what you love and share what you know. Advice for opening a shop is more complicated and the first thing you would need to do is talk with an account. A shop is a business and must be treated as such or you won't be in business long. But realize that having a shop means your focus is to help other people with their sewing. You won't have time to sew!!
    Good Luck in your ventures.
