Buttermilk Pound Cake and an Antique Preview

An old handwritten recipe I have had for decades.

Yellow Buttermilk Pound Cake
by Jeannie Downs Baumeister

Ingredients must be at Room Temperature
1 Cup Butter (the real thing)
3 Cups Sugar
4 Large  Eggs
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1/2 Teaspoon Almond Extract
3 Cups All Purpose Flour
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1/4 Teaspoon Salt
1 Cup Buttermilk

Cream butter and sugar.  Add Vanilla and Almond extracts.  Add eggs, one at a time, creaming after each egg is added.  Sift dry ingredients and add them to creamed mixture alternately with Buttermilk.  Do not under or over beat (don't you just love that  - like saying do not get the tension on your stitch too tight or too loose!).  Put in lightly greased and flowered Angel Food cake pan.

Bake at 350 for about 1 hour.

Serve warm and it is yummy!
Serve cold and it's wonderful too!

Just wait until you see the rest of this gown!!  You will die from delight!

  1. Looks yummy----I love pound cake. But how about "floured" instead of "flowered." LOL--I was picturing what kind of flowers to put in my pan.

  3. This looks delish! Think I'll be baking while after I finish up crocheting the lace on my daygown. Mmmmm . . . . cake.
