Ahhhh....!

Working on Shadow Embroidery with the sun as my light!

Then, took a little break to walk down to the beach....
do I look content or what?
....to sit under a beach umbrella!

View from our balcony - Orange beach  Alabama
A friend and I went to the beach for a few days over spring break to get some sewing work done.

It was totally wonderful.
On the way home we stopped at an Outlet Mall.
I liked the flowers on the collar of this dress.

Bullions and French Knots.

Click to enlarge and you will see that this dress is NOT smocked.  The threads are manipulated on the surface to simulate smocking.

Nothing like the real thing!

I love that SAGA promotes real Smocking!!
Support your local (or National) Smocking Guild or the dress above could be our future.

  1. How nice to be by the beach! We had a rainy day yesterday but now the sun is shining. Fake smocking! what will they think of next?

  4. Indeed, nothing like real smocking! I too am glad SAGA is around to promote not only the execution of this lovely art but also the appreciation of it.
