My "Emma's Smocked Baby Dresses" - Very nice without Smocking!!
I Love, Love, Love this little blue dress!! It exceeded my expectations!! I love it when I make the right choice in Designing the first time! But how could it not be stunning with all the wonderful Bear Threads materials I used. Visit Bear Threads to see the article I did in their January Newsletter. You will also find information about Swiss Voile! I really like this little dress with out the smocking at the yoke as much as I like it when it is smocked!

The feature of this little dress is the Lacy Yoke!
The lace is Maline and the fabric is Swiss Voile. We tend to forget about Voile when making Heirloom clothing but I am here to tell you that it has a wonderful hand, so drapey and nice. And it doesn't wrinkle like the Swiss Batiste does which makes it a fabulous choice for children.
The pretty hem has been machine pin stitched onto the fabric.
I machine stitched all the laces together using a Pfaff Creative 2144 machine. But I whipped the gathered lace edging on by hand. You have so much more control over stitching the gathers evenly.
I used matching Lacy band for the sleeve. Pretty, don't you think?
Making pretty sleeves is easy. Just position the lace band over the middle of the sleeve and attach it! I did not gather the lower area of the sleeve as much where the band was. It is prettier if you can see a little more of the band.
The back of the dress is one of the cutest things about Emma's Smocked Baby Dresses!
Just a little touch of embroidery. The Feather Stitch of course! And a pretty Bullion Rose bud. I love pink and blue together.

This is beyond gorgeous. The ethereal frothy look to the voile is to die for. It is sweetness personified. Love it. Have already sent it to one daughter hoping for approval.

I used my pattern "Emma's Smocked Baby Clothes". But I did not smock it. I will have a kit on my web site.
But I will work up the yardage and basic directions for a future post, perhaps with in the week.
This is something I would dream of being able to make. It's just too pretty for words.
Ok, I am seriously gaping over this dress!!! That is without a doubt the most beautiful baby dress I have ever seen!!! I just want to eat it!!! I think I have that pattern, better go see!!!
This little dress was NOT hard to make. It is beginning French Machine Sewing with a little hand embroidery and lace edging whipped on by hand!!
OMGosh! It's GORGEOUS!! Blue is a favorite of mine hands down anyway, but this dress is the most precious thing I have ever seen! I am pretty sure I have that pattern - I have nearly all your patterns...I think this is going on the "must-have" list!

What a stunning dress and lovely blog. Oh how I wish we lived closer! I took the Martha Pullen Beginning Heirloom sewing several years ago and have not found anyone in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area such as you to continue taking classes. I'll be back to visit again!

OH, how beautiful!!! There was a time I considered sewing heirloom quality baby clothes for a living, but I am not as good a seamstress as you. I taught myself to sew with the help of some associates when I worked at JoAnn Fabrics. I was 20 in love with Princess Diana and I wanted to copy a few of her clothes. When I had my children I drooled over Martha Pullen's baby clothes and Sew Beautiful's features on baby clothes. Have sewn for children but it is much more utilitarian work than art. Wonderful blog. I will have to go to your website next!

I too, made this beautiful blue dress for my great granddaughters 1 Yr. Easter dress. I found the directions in a Sew Beautiful magazine and just used a basic dress pattern and their directions. It worked up so beautifully.
