My February Week of Sewing - Day 3

Block 12 - Done!!
Today, my Friend Bunny and I worked on our Mystery Block of the Month quilt.

The mystery has been over awhile because  the year was up last summer
and we had all the block kits.  They just needed done!

The fabrics are pretty and I have renewed vigor to finish this quilt because it will go to my oldest Granddaughter.  And it's fun to sew with Bunny.

If you look at the above picture, all the empty white squares are the Blocks we have been working on.  They are now complete so we will begin to put everything together.

I guess we start with the block in the middle.  Who would have ever thought I could do this?  Who could have ever thought I would want to?  But it's fun.

I love to sew!

My February Week of Sewing - Day2

We will be stitching on this heavenly pink handkerchief Linen.

I worked on my class for Farmhouse Fabric in March.
And I was busy!

I determined how much fabric I needed when using 60" wide Linen.
…so I can start on my kits.

I stitched this lovely lace to the hem of my dress.

AND…..this took some time.

I determined which color floss I would use for the embroidery.

After auditioning two different stitches, I decided which stitch I would use for ONLY ONE of the stitches on the yoke design.

I decided how many strands of the floss I needed to get the right look for that stitch.
(I did this by trying each stitch…see above…using one strand and two)

I tried different needles to see which one worked best for this stitch and this fabric.

I worked the stitch over and over and over (the pic above is not all my stitches) to see how big the stitch needed to be.

I worked the stitch over and over to find out the right tension for this stitch and this fabric.

I worked this stitch over and over to see the difference it might make using different methods to tie onto the fabric.

I worked the stitch over and over and over again using different combinations of the above.

And after stitching all the combinations above to be sure….I found the right color floss, the right stitch, the right number of strands of floss, the right needle, the correct tension, the method that worked best for attaching the floss to the fabric.

And whew! I was mentally tired.

So I went to my quilting neighbors house….

…and worked on my Peter Rabbit Baby Blanket which I am quilting.

No decisions to make.  Just the same old Running Stitch over and over.

And chatted about absolutely nothing remotely important to world affairs!

And it was a nice day.

My Feb. Week of Sewing - Day 1

I have been working on my March class for Farmhouse Fabrics.

We are making a sleeveless Baby Dress.  Because the pattern we are using (Emma's Smocked Baby Dresses) has sleeves, I have adjustments to make.

This scripture can center my life on difficult days.
I don't like to cut through the scriptures that are doodled on my patterns.
You never know when you might need the encouragement.

You are gonna love this dress!!

My New Sewing Machine Light

This light is just what I needed.  Now I can totally see what I'm stitching.

It mounts to my Sewing Machine with an adhesive.  You peal off the sticker and on it goes. If you want to remove it or move it, just wipe your machine with Goo Gone.

Bendable Bright Light, I have been waiting for you all my life.

The Cutest Thing Ever!!

This little Smocked Bubble was worn by my friends Granddaughter.

It was purchased.  Smocked probably in the Orient.
(I want you to know that no lovingly smocked garments were sacrificed for this blog post!)

But very Cute.

I love,love,love this quilt!

My friend collected several outfits her Granddaughter had worn.  And made this Memory Quilt.  I had never heard of such a thing, but Sienna tells me it is quite popular with the young Mom's today.

Her daughter in law gave her many outfits and let her choose which ones to include.

Fun for me to guess what they were….gingham bubble maybe?
Love the Silk Ribbon embroidery on this block.

This block is very interesting.

I love the way she used different parts of this outfit in one block.  Do you see the puffed sleeve on the left?

Sienna monogramed Sarah's name here.

I love the look of this machine embroidered monogram.
One of the cutest I've seen!

It is such a personal reminder for Sarah about how special she is.

White on White is always going to please me.
Kind of heirloomy.

Baby Gap on the label!!

This might be my favorite.  The Bonnet stitched in 3 dimensional form above the little outfit that it matches.

Notice the I'm The Big Sister T-Shirt?
Sienna, holding up part of this cute, cute quilt she made.

Although I would never cut up a special outfit made for my child, I think this is a wonderful way to use all the cute baby clothes your little one wore, including play clothes you made.   Anything that is not going to be passed along and is often relegated to a box in the attic or  given randomly away are good choices.

It would be fun to include  blocks made using left over fabric scraps from the garments you made your little one.  And such a special memory for Mom.  Also I can just picture the Toddler or Young child loving her very own Special Quilt.

Thankyou Sienna for sharing this with us!

Peter Rabbit Baby Blanket

I love Peter Rabbit.  I love Beatrix Potter and all her  cute little animals.

But I love Peter Rabbit the best.

Blanket in my quilting hoop.
This Baby Blanket is a panel of fabric printed with this Peter Rabbit (and friends)  art.

Under the  influence of my hand quilting neighbor, we sandwiched batting between the front Peter Rabbit fabric and a backing.  We stitched it right sides together and then turned it right side out, slip stitching the open area used for turning.

Then I put it in a hoop.  I take it down to her house to visit with her.
And stitch.

Last night we stitched by the fire in her fireplace.

You might be able to see better if you click on the photo to enlarge.  As I quilt (which is just the running stitch…by the way) the fabrics and batting together, it makes the area puff out.

More impressive in person I think.

But I am loving it.  As I stitch, it kind of comes to life in a 3 dimentional sort of way.

I'm having fun!
