Chicago Retreat - Behind the Scenes - Saga Women Rock!

It takes many, many workers to organize, arrange and run a Saga Retreat.

Maggie from Missouri has been busy making Wee Care Gowns.

These are the busy ladies behind the scenes.
(only a few are pictured in this post -  many more were working to make it happen)

Thank you Ladies!!

The Wee Care Program is an important Service Project for Saga.

Each gown is lovely in it's own way.

Cute Shadow Embroidered Duck.

I love the care and time that went into these special gowns.
For some babies, it will be their only garment. And it means so much to the parents.

Saga Women Rock!!

Goodbye Chicago --We had a real good time!

Saga News

I received my latest issue of Saga News.

This was a wonderful issue….all about Wee Care, including patterns and stitching information.

I love it.

The only way you can receive this is by being a member of the Smocking Guild of America (Saga).

When you are a member, you can count yourself as one of the elect people who support the Needle arts such as  Smocking, Fine Embroidery, Heirloom Sewing and more.  We are a group who want to keep these skills alive to pass down to others.

Plus…we just have alot of fun doing it.

Threads of Love Convention

These gowns show the many different sizes that are made by the Threads of Love Ladies.

Last week Threads of Love held their Convention.

There are Threads of Love Chapters all over our country and some members made the trip to Baton Rouge to attend.

Above  you can see a picture of one of the many Display Tables put together by different Threads of Love Chapters.  It is a wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas and be encouraged in this Ministry.

There are ladies who share their love and sewing skills by making tiny garments for Babies who were born too early or in distress.

These are Lovie Dolls.  The Mom sleeps with the Doll so it will have her scent on it, then it is put inside the bed with her baby to give comfort and calm the baby.

One year the children at my Church made Lovie Dolls for the Babies. Even the littlest children could stuff the Dolls.  They were very serious about their job as we explained what they were used for.  And prayers were said for the Babies who would receive the Dolls.

Here we are at lunch, eating a wonderful meal and listening to the speaker tell us about her job as a Neonatal Nurse.

Women were able to learn new techniques used to embellish the garments.

I was there only one day teaching but the Convention lasted longer.
And I am sorry to tell you that I did not take even  one picture in class.  We were too busy!

French Handsewers Smocking Arts Guild Meeting

Suzanne made this beautiful Bib in  a class with Saga Teacher Marie Yoland.

At our last SAGA meeting, we began a project to learn how to do Boutis.
I love this lovely technique!

All set and ready to stitch!
Our project will be a Pin Cushion. And we have homework.
Stitching homework is fun!

This little gown was turned in at the meeting.
Part of our mission as a SAGA guild is to stitch Wee Care items for local hospitals.

I love the way the sleeve was finished.
Two Buttonholes were stitched in the sleeve, one inch apart.

Then a ribbon was laced through the two buttonholes, pulled up and tied in a bow.

This tiny Bonnet was made to go with it.  The brim folds back.

employ it in serving one another as good stewards
of the manifold grace of God."

Monday, November 19

Chesapeake Treasures Guild Meeting - a visit.

Show and Share included finished Wee Care Gowns.
The evening I was visiting, the program was about the Grady Gown for the Wee Care program.

Two pretty gowns all finished!

Pleated Grady gowns were passed out to the members.  I think they had workshops to get these little gowns pleated and packaged beforehand.

And two lovely ladies were in charge of the program.
They were there to teach and help the members get started at this meeting.

There were lots and lots of very attractive goodies to tempt you!
And there was alot of laughing and visiting going on (not during the program, of course).  You could tell they were a happy bunch of ladies who enjoyed being together.

I loved this Sewing Box one of the ladies had.

It was a treat to visit them and we all had a real good time!

Little Smocked Bonnets.

This little Smocked Bonnet is for Wee Care.
The Bonnets are for babies in need.

I made three.
Another place they go is Threads of Love.

And really, I would say the Bonnets are for parents in need.

My friend Lorraine serged the edge of the Bonnets with pink thread.
She used a rolled hem and regular sewing thread.
I really like the way the soft ruffle looks.

This ministry is close to my heart.

And I put three Rosebuds  across the top.

I will tell you why this ministry is important to me in another post.
 Later.

Today, join Faded Charm for White Wednesday!
