A Really Cute Daygown

I made this little Daygown in a Jiffy!

I wanted something soft and cosy so I made it from a fine Pink Mico-check Flannel.  To make it very usable for Mom, I made a casing and inserted a soft elastic into it.

This pattern is  "Priscilla's Layette", which I love.

It has been out of print for a while but.. Hooray, I found a few hiding in the wrong box!

I embroidered a vintage inspired Kitten on the lower right side.

And I embroidered a spray of flowers between the first two buttons.  The hem is white Swiss Edging and I also made the neck binding out of a white fabric.

French Acadian Baby Slip

Continuing my French Acadian Baby Gown post (Christening Gown pattern shortened to gown length).   I want to show you the slip.  

This slip is worn under the Gown that I gave as my Baby Shower gift.

The neck edge was finished by turning the fabric under 1/8" twice and stitched in place with a Running Stitch.

I embellished the neck edge with Over Tucks/Whip Tucks.  They were stitched 1/2" apart.  They take up such a tiny amount of fabric that I didn't need to allow extra fabric in the slip.

A sweet Old Fashioned Bullion Rose sits at the bottom of each tuck.

Little green leaves extend below them.

I finished the armholes with an old fashioned Shell Hem.

The hem of the slip has the same Maline Victorian Lace Edging as the Gown.

I gently gathered it to give it a bit of a ruffle.

I attached the lace using the sewing machine  Roll and Whip method.

I wanted soft ruffles in my lace and not tight gathers.

To achieve the soft gathers and to have additional control over the gathering, I pulled up three of the threads in the lace heading.  More info HERE.

Each lace is different as to the number of threads you can pull to gather.  You will need to experiment.  Most laces I would only gather two threads but this lace had a bit of wide heading and I had a much better result by pulling three.

The most important part of pulling the thread in the lace heading is to be gentle and slow.  The more threads you pull, the greater the resistance.  If you are not slow and easy, the fragile thread can break.

I learned this lesson the hard way!!

French Acadian Gown /Baby Shower

This is my finished Baby Gown for my new Granddaughter, due in November.

I used my French Acadian Christening Gown and shortened it to a Gown length (about 21 0r 22").

The shower was Sunday, October 1st and I stitched  for a solid month on the gown to complete it on time.

I am totally enthralled with this gown and I have more photos to show in the next post.

May this Baby Girl be showered with Grace.

Lovely Green Daygown

Washed and Pressed!!

This Daygown was made using my Sweet and Simple Baby Daygown Pattern.  It was featured in Sew Beautiful Magazine. Unfortunately I don't remember which issue it was :(  

However, the embroidery is in my Jeannie B Embroidery book. 

 The yoke design is  on page 23 at the top left.

The embroidery just above the hem (on either side of the front opening) is on page 30.

The embroidery was stitched using Madeira Silk Embroidery floss and probably a 10 Crewel needle with a 10 Straw needle for the Bullions.

The fabric is soft mint green Fairy Fabric.

This pattern features underarm tucks.

Very old fashioned and the add a bit of extra room to the gown.

I stitched lace insertion right above where the hem was stitched.  

Then I pinstitched it by machine.

Gathered lace and whipped it to the lower part of the lace insertion.

The matching  Bonnet is also washed and   ironed!

Ready for the new Grandbaby were expecting.

But….

I forgot about a slip…..so I'm busy stitching!

Washing Baby's Daygown

Under the Bubbles is a pretty soft mint green Daygown and Bonnet.

I am washing it before it goes to the intended owner.

I am using ZOTE laundry soap.

 ( I remember when Ivory Snow was soap but now its detergent.)

You must first dissolve the flakes in warm water before adding the garment. 

 And I bought it at Walmart of all places!

Drying in the sun.

My Brown Dog is never far away!
