My Fantastic Sewing Trip - A Fabric Store in Brussels

This fabric store was enough to take your breath away.

It had the most amazing fabrics for making fine clothing.

You need to click on the pictures for the fabric details.
Beautiful.

Fabric for just about anything.

Mens shirting's (where you will find soft and fine fabric for Daygowns!) and women's Fancy Gowns.

Loved these - too big for my suitcase!

My girls would have swooned if I'd have had access to this fabric when I was sewing for their Homecomings, Proms etc.  in High School.

I am now determined to fit a skirt pattern for me!
Then I can buy some of this wonderful fabric for cute skirts.

(The thing that stops me is losing that 15 lbs before I want to fit a skirt for me!)

This one is stunning.

The outside of the Fabric shop.

It was a good walk from our hotel but lots of pretty things to see along the way.

Just ask the concierge at your hotel about fabric shops.

It was a wonderful day!

Pink or White?

Do I want to smock in White with a Pink Bullion?  Do I want to smock in all Pink?  Which Smocking Design should I use?
The hardest part of any project for me is deciding!

Even something as simple as the floss.  I love white on white, especially with just a little pink Bullion accent.   But this pattern has only a little bit of smocking.  So, if I smock it in pink it will still be only a little bit of color.  Why agonize over this small detail anyway?  Both will be lovely!

I am loving making Baby's Smocked Layette pattern.  This one for my other "Grand" Neice.
I cut out and pleated this dress yesterday.
Then after finally deciding on Pink Floss (Anchor #48) , I smocked it.
It didn't take much time at all. It's for my "Grand" neice, who is three weeks old.

Very pretty. Lucky for me the fabric I am using was already decided.  It is matching a Nightgown I made for Baby's  sister.  It's called Skip Dent.

 Now on to the construction.

Finest Embroidered Fabric

Fine White Swiss Batiste with Pink Eyelets.
Oops, I photographed the wrong side of this fabric.

This is the finest Swiss Batiste!  And the tiny embroidery and eyelets  sprinkled about  are beautiful (even if it is machine!).  I have many ideas about what to do with this fabric.  But I haven't done a one!!  Which one do I want to use??  There's my first roadblock.

The pink is pretty!

My favorite color is blue.  AND I love anything blue and white!

This is the White you saw yesterday!

The white looks so pure, though.

White Wednesday - Antique Baby Gown

This little Baby Gown is a sweet, sweet treasure.
It was passed along to me so that I might share it with you and others. Please notice the yoke.  It is made from embroidered fabric and is very fine.  A dear lady named Mary gave it to me.  You can see the bonnets she gave me here.

Although it is a yoked style, there are few gathers at the yoke.  It is cut in more of an A-line style with a yoked bodice.  Mrs Buford Dextor (born in 1902) wore this gown made by either her Mother or Grandmother.

The ruffle at the hem was rolled and whipped and attached to lace insertion. There was alot of rolling and whipping going on here!  It is entirely hand stitched.  The hem of the ruffle was put in with a Hemstitch.  Lace edging sewn to the very bottom.

This is some Embroidered Swiss Batiste fabric that is very fine and embroidered all over.  It is perfect to duplicate this gown.

Babies  may start out small,
but the important thing is that they grow!
