Featherweight Sewing Love - Lizzie's Legacy

My Friend came to stay a couple of days with me to work on our Lizzie's Legacy Quilt.

She brought her Featherweight Sewing Machine.

I have 21 blocks stitched in many different pink prints.

We have only stitched on our quilts when we have been together.  We began our quilts in Feb, 2017. She lives four hours away so we haven't been able to stitch together as much as we'd like.

My Friends blocks are  looking like a Quilt!!

My Friend finished all 30 of the blocks she needed for her quilt.  And she already had the plain blocks cut out and ready to stitch.  Before she left, her blocks were stitched together in strips and some strips were together too.

 As she left my house she said "I hope I don't have to wait until we get together again to finish this!"  Ha Ha.     She is so close to finishing, she will have it complete in no time.

In this close up you can see that the plain blocks are made of a small print.  It's the same background fabric as mine, except mine is pink. 

This quilt is on page 38 of  Betsy Chutchian's book Lizzie's Legacy.  The book  has quotes from Lizzie's journal which gives you a glimpse into her Pioneer life. 

"This morning I quilted some - in the evening I and Martha picked geese - Martha White came down this evening and I sewed a little for her on the machine - she in turn helped us pick geese."  from Lizzie's journal on February 7, 1876

Bunny and Me - Quilt Update

Just completed another Block!

Bunny and I began stitching Block One in July 2014.  Yes, all twelve blocks were supposed to be done in one year.  But I'm pretty happy with what we've done.   Really, it was an excuse to get together.  So the Quilt will be lagniappe!!

Two more blocks to go.

Quilting is sewing too!

Latest Mystery Block Quilt Square- Done

The next block we will start on is shown in the lower left.

My Friend Bunny and I got together three different times to cut out and stitch just this one block.

Gee, that must explain why it has taken us 10 Months to complete 8 squares.

In our behalf - we only stitch when we're together.  Which is the point of us making the quilt. Fun times sewing together!

A Fun Saturday Morning In My Sewing Room

My Friend came over this morning.

She helped me put together kits!  She is stitching a Ready To Smock Bonnet.

This Paperwhite plant was a birthday gift from her.

Look! It is almost ready to bloom!

Today we had a Hodge Podge Tea!  Nothing matched.

You can see that there is a flurry of activity in my Sewing Room by the messy table.

This is the Blue & White Teapot I bought and hand carried home from New York City.  A girl can't have too many Teapots!

These are my Buttermilk Muffins. They are super good for you!  They include Oats, Wholewheat flour and Flax.  And they are sooo good.  Especially when sitting on a Spode blue and white plate!!

This is a glimpse of one of the things I am doing. The little knot marks the center of the pleats. 

I should be embarrassed to tell you this but I think you would want to know.   I counted those pleats 8 or a zillion times before I found the center of the pleated fabric.  They kept moving on me.  I swear!

Stitching Fun!

Yes, another fun day stitching with my friend at her house!!  Daygowns of course!!   I had the new designs ready and first we chose fabric and lace.  I am making mine with Ultra Batiste again.  I am really liking it and don't want to use Swiss Batiste until I am sure of the Design.  I plan to trim the neck with blue Entredeux (From Capitol Imports) and a Baby Lace Edging.

Friend chose a nice Lawn which is a little  more sturdy.  She will have pink entredeux at the neck and a pretty baby lace to trim it.

Speedy Friend also cut out a pink Daygown to make as well.  She will have both done before I finish my one gown!  I was taking pictures and she had her first gown cut out.

This is her drawer of Feet for her machine.  I so admire this drawer!!

Her Feet are in number order and she knows right where they are!!

Imagine!

I went home and took a picture of MY drawer.  Now, I have more feet put away but these are the ones I use all the time. Hmmmm....

Friends

We are making Daygowns using "Baby Layette" pattern.

I went to visit a friend and we had FUN!

We are each sewing a daygown, hers is pink and mine is white.  We have been planing this for part of our summer fun!!  

She sews faster than me!  I'm pretty slow.

Roses came from my Garden.

She loves Tea too!!  So we had tea and I got to choose my Tea Cup.

This is her sewing space.  She shares it with the home office they have.

Notice the shelf.  The hooks under it hold nifty stuff.   

It's wonderful to sew here! 

She has everything she needs right at her finger tips.  And pretty things to look at.

I should have taken more pictures.  I know you would like to see them.  See the black fabric under her sewing machine.  There are pockets that hold scissors etc.  I LOVE it!!!  And her drawer to the left has all her machine feet right there organized in the box, easy to find.

I came home and I am determined to make my sewing area more useful!!

I am always hunting for something.  Wasting my sewing time!

A Fun Time With My Sew Sew's!

Lovely Crocheted Baby Blankets!  For a lucky baby!

We were all working on assorted projects today.  Only the blankets finished for show and tell!

Working on the SAGA class/program I am teaching for the French Hand Sewers. 

 Lorraine has done her Snail Shirring and is finishing up her bonnet to be ready for the next class.

I am hemstitching! 

I love to hemstitch.  It is so satisfying to see those loose little threads bundled into a pretty design.

We drank coffe and tea in pretty cups.

Jenny was knitting and Laura was finishing a slip with the Shell Hem.

The hostess told me she and her family built their house 45 years ago when they had 3 small children underfoot.  She had a 4'X10' space built off the family room/kitchen area just for her sewing. It is the perfect spot for a Mom with little ones to watch.  And there are doors to close it off so she could  keep those little hands safe.  It is a wonderful space!

This is  a very functional area.  Everything she needs right there!

Sew Sew's in New Orleans

One of the women in my sewing group moved to New Orleans.  So we drove down there this month when it was her turn to hostess our group.  It was exciting being in the city even though we drove straight to her home and stitched like we always do. And that  is fun enough!

Some of the large, beautiful homes in the New Orleans Garden District have been subdivided into  Apartments or used for Businesses and some are still homes.
