White Wednesday - Fun With The Sew Sew's

It was a fun time for the Sew Sew's.  Mostly people were working on Baby Blankets.  But Diane brought an amazing Show and Tell.

Her niece is getting married and she made a Brides Garter and also the Ring Bearers Pillow.

Did you notice she made a little bag to enclose a dime.  And tied it with a "something blue" bow.  I forgot to ask the significance of the dime but maybe one of you will know.

My Mother did  tell me to always to carry a Dime on a date in case I needed to call her to come get me!!  I never did have to do that.

And I hope it doesn't apply in this case!

(add on)  I've got it!!  The reason for the dime.  Several of you mentioned the dime as a substitute for a sixpence.  Exactly so!

Something Old,
Something New,
Something Borrowed,
Something Blue,
And a Lucky Sixpence for her shoe!

The top of the pillow is made from an antique hanky.  The quality of the linen is breathtaking.

The Bride and Grooms initials are so beautifully stitched.

And she stitched my favorite...Featherstitching between the Hemstitching.

Then Carole came and told me I needed to be more imaginative in my photography and include the pretty blue flowers.  So I did.

I love her old brick patio.

Then I got side tracked and started taking pictures of her flowers.

Everyone had a good time stitching, talking and eating lunch.
And encouraging each other!
There's nothing like friends for that.

Praise,
like sunlight,
helps
all things
 grow.

And this is my White Wednesday today with Faded Charm!

Love to see the wonderful things from the Sew Sews. The pillow is gorgeous!
I have known of others who had a special dime as a wedding keepsake. I believe it is suppose to be from the birth year of the bride. Not sure of the purpose, but it is probably for something good!

I haven't heard of a dime, but I have heard of a lucky sixpence. Read from Wikapedia regarding the sixpence:
They have also been seen as a lucky charm for brides. There is an old rhyme which goes "Something old, something new / Something borrowed, something blue / And a sixpence for her (left) shoe."

I suppose a sixpence could look like a dime through lace. However, and more likely, historically, an American dime was commonly accepted in exchange for a British sixpence. My friend carried a lucky sixpence in her wedding.

I haven't known anyone to ever carry a dime, but my friend carried a sixpence in her wedding.

Here's the rhyme from Wikipedia regarding a sixpence:

My guess is that since, historically speaking, the American dime was generally accepted as interchangeable with the British sixpence, the lucky custom is also interchangeable.

I'll bet the dime is for luck, but I've never heard of it before.
My wedding photographer gave me a shiny new penny to put into my wedding pumps for good luck.

I have heard the same rhyme that Emily found. Years ago, I was a guest at a very lavish wedding. At the rehearsal dinner, the bride's uncle (who frequently traveled to the UK on business, made a presentation of a sixpence minted the year of her birth for her to place in her shoe. Since then I knew brides to use dimes (and always minted in her birth year).
And now it occurs to me, that while I had something old, something new, something borrowed, I can't remember what I had that was blue, nor if I had a dime in my shoe! Hmmmm.....
