My February Week of Sewing - Day 4

today was Featherstitching day…

I spent the morning, embroidering by the fire.

Taking breaks for tea and a book.

I had built the fire up to a blazing heat.
So my Brown Dog took his nap behind my chair.

I love to Featherstitch.
It is a rhythm stitch.  This stitch requires a bit of warming up until I reach the rhythm where the stitches fall in into place and I am picking up the same amount of fabric in my needle each time.  And I am moving down the design line evenly.  It's a good feeling….

and all is good with my world.

A Lovely Morning by the Fire

I am embroidering the label to put on the quilt for my son.  I decided to embroider a Bird this time, instead of a Rose.

(from my embroidery book)

And I am working on my little Boy Daygown.  I am sewing the cuffs in place and using one strand of blue embroidery floss with an 11 Sharps needle.

I don't want the stitches too small because I want them to show.  But I am trying to get them pretty even….not that anyone but me would even notice!!

My prayer for this baby as I stitch:  May this child grow in wisdom and grace that he might be a blessing to all who know him.

"Be all of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brethren, be tenderhearted, be courteous." 1 Peter 3:8

A Cosy Place To Stitch

This scripture fabric is sold by the yard at specialty shops.

This is the scripture Miah chose.
Now, sewn to her quilt back.

Another day of fireside stitching.
I'm on a mission.

I will finish embroidering the label today.

My Brown Dog, always near by.

It's a good day.

Stitching By The Fire - Sewing Buttons

It has been icy in Baton Rouge and I have spent much time by the fire stitching!
My favorite thing in the winter.

I sewed the Buttons onto the dress I have been working on.  I used a flat button because they are on the back of the garment and Baby will be laying on them.

Click for Information about how to Sew on Buttons.

This is a picture of my Rosebush!!
Poor thing.

My Brown Dog had his nose right up to the fire.
He was cold too.

This pretty cup was my Grandmothers.

I was reading the Psalms.

May you have a joyful day.

Stitching By The Fire - Entredeux to Fabric

I have stitched  right along on my Farmhouse Fabric Class Dress.  Sleeve (with lace) is attached .  I'm now ready to finish the entredeux and add the lace at the neck.

It's cold here in Baton Rouge and I have had lots of hand stitching time sitting in front of the fire.
My cat is enjoying the fire too.

I really like the way the dress looks using the old fashioned method of attaching entredeux at the neck.  The written directions are in most of my newer patterns.  I have good instructions, with pictures on my blog too.  See HERE!

Today is a pretty Blue and White china sort of a day!

Tea is always better in pretty china.

Stitching By The Fire - Pretty Sleeve

I'm stitching along on my Class dress.

love the sweet sleeves

Stitching in front of my fire…I love it.

I wanted somthing cheerful in the way of china this morning!

I put some lemon in my tea today for a change.

And I've finished stitching the beading to sleeve and am now stitching lace to the entredeux part of the beading.  See the tiny brass safty pin?  That is what I use to mark the halfway point of the lace to line it up with the center of the sleeve.  I want my lace gathers to be even!  See here for a lesson.

This is what I am reading this morning.

May the light of God's presence shine on you today.

Stitching By the Fire

A cold day in Baton Rouge and the perfect time to sit and stitch in front of a blazing fire!

I'm stitching the beading to my sleeve..the old fashioned way!
The garment is part of the class project for Farmhouse Fabrics.

The three day class is this March.

Having Earl Grey tea, my favorite.  Don't you love my tea towel?  The tea pot and tea cup are cross stitched on the towel.  Very vintage, a gift from a Friend.

My sweet Brown Dog is never very far from me.  Every time I see a photo of him in my living room I am just so pleased at how well a Brown Dog looks in this room!

Just finished reading this book.

Have a happy day!

On Treating A Cold!

I have a cold.
Just the sneezing, runny nose kind.  That makes you feel lousy.

So, this is how I spent most of my day.
Stitching in front of the fire.

A warm, cozy fire.  With real wood burning.

Stitching on my quilt.
I must say, my quilting stitches are nothing to brag about.
At this point I am trying to just get them even.  I have read that a "good quilter" gets about 12 stitches per inch.  Is that even possible??  My all time  best is 5 stitches per inch!!

But I like the stitching.

To feel better, you need hot  tea in a pretty teacup.

And a good book to read when you take a break from stitching.

I have read this book several times and I always enjoy it.
I love "going out West" stories.

May your day be warm.

Stitching by The Fire!

I'm stitching a pretty pink Baby Sacque.

It is part of Baby's Layette for my class with Farmhouse Fabrics in March.

I love my  Ruler Box , it really is handy to have by my chair.

It keeps me from losing my floss and needles.

And Levi the cat is enjoying the fire with me!

(you can be sure my Brown Dog is here too!)

Stitching By The Fire

I'm not fond of cold weather!
But I love to stitch by the fire.  It's a favorite activity.

I am stitching my blue 9 patch quilt.
All by hand and I am almost ready to stitch the borders!

Did you notice my Wool Wrist Pincushion?
The arm of the chair is a perfect fit!!

What I am reading by the fire.

Stitching By The Fire.

The  air is crisp and cold in the mornings here in Louisiana.
Perfect to sit by a toasty fire and stitch!

I am adding entredeux on my Farmhouse Fabrics Daygown.
I love this fancy entredeux at the neck edge.

The little Daygown we will be stitching in class at Farmhouse Fabrics will include under-tucks, an old fashioned method of adding fullness to a garment.
I love Tea Strainers!
I need this tea strainer because I am using loose tea in my pot.

This morning I am reading...

And drinking Earl Grey tea.
This cup of tea is so wonderful this morning.

A perfect morning!
