Soft Mint Daygown Kit Available - Vintage Materials.

Baby Londyn is  wearing her Geiger Daygown, when she was 4 months old (I think)!

This Daygown is made from the original "Geiger" Batiste which Bear Threads sold.  They have since copied the original because it is so yummy!!

I have some stock in the original.

Londyn was younger in this photo.  Learning as I go along…
Put her age on the photo!!!

This Daygown is made using "Baby's First Daygowns" pattern and View 3.

This is the photo from the last post.

In this photo Londyn is 5 months old and weighs 13 lbs and change.
What a difference a few weeks can make.

The Daygown is still plenty big on her.

A kit is available to make this Daygown using the vintage materials.

What a great opportunity to copy this sweet little garment.

Victoria and Albert - Textiles 9

I really love this style.

I feel like just about anyone would look attractive in this.

(with a little under garment help!)

Victoria and Albert - Textiles 8

Beautiful white  blouse.

These fashions make me feel a little frumpy in my normal clothes!

Victoria and Albert Museum - Textiles 7

Beautiful example of White work.

The illustration below shows the collar tied.  I think it was left loose for us to see the detail and the extensive stitching done on it.

And the necessary under garments to give it the proper shape.

This museum is  amazing!

Victoria and Albert Museum - Textiles 3

I am continuing my post from England….interrupted by life…and some of the textiles I saw.

This is a close up of a Quilt dating from  circa 1380.

Intricate stitches.

Click to enlarge for more detail.

The Victoria and Albert museum is one of the most amazing places I have ever been.

I Love My Old Hoosier Jars

I found these old jars in an antique shop while on my Boston/New Hampshire trip with Susie Gay. They were made to fit in the old Hoosier kitchens and I L.O.V.E. them.

I never even knew they existed.

But now…..I NEED them.  And I NEED  more (at a reasonable price, of course).

They are absolutely perfect for my huge inventory of Buttons.

Blue Embroidery

This cute little Baby Sacque is made from Baby Pinwale Pique fabric

You could use my Baby Sacque, Wrapper and Embroidery  Pattern to copy it.

Very summery!

The blue embroidery is what really caught my eye.
I love blue and white combinations!

The embroidery is simple but very effective.

Thank you Julie for sharing this with us.

Brussels Museum of Costume and Lace: Whitework Hanky

Two of my favorite things stitched onto another favorite - a Hanky.

(I love to use a hanky - how many of you do too?)

"Lawn fabric trimmed with white embroidery in cord stitch and stem stitch edged with flounce in Valenciennes lace.  Simple pattern comprising openwork flowers.  Monogram M H surmounted by a royal crown."

The stitching on this hanky is very fine and well executed.

It belonged to the Queen of Belgians

Marie-Henriette (1836-1902)

ps.  Are you getting bored with all this museum stuff yet??

Museum of Costume and Lace: Fans

It is hard to imagine a time when a lady would not be with out her fan.

I am loving this Brussels Museum of Costume and Lace.

And easy to imagine this amazing lace fan would be priced out of  reach of the average lady.

I believe much of this collection belonged to the Royal and the Rich.

Belgium Museum of Costume and Lace: Lace Dress

This dress is exquisite.
It is made primarily of lace.

Beautiful from the back as well.

Click to enlarge pictures to see them better and to read this information about the dress.

Close up of lace.

She must of been beautiful in this dress.

The next few posts will show laces in the collection.

And please know that we went on this trip before the tragedy in France and are quite safe.

Museum of Costume and Lace Post 3

This was one of my favorites at the Museum of Costume and Lace in Brussels, Belgium.

I like the heirloomy lace ruffle at the neck.

I love the pretty  cotton fabric.

The details are just…sweet!

I picture this on a pretty young woman.

This museum was full of wonderful things, including a collection of lace.
I'll show you more.  Next time.

Museum of Costume and Lace cont..

The dress styles and fabrics were wonderful .

This post continues my visit to the Museum of Costume and Lace in Brussels, Belgium.

Part of my Fantastic Sewing Trip.

The waist looks tiny.  Partly due to the corset that cinches in the waist and partly due to the wide hip area that will give any waist a smaller look.

The silk fabric is still vibrant, even after such a long time.

This hand painted fan is a work of art!  More to come in the next post...

My FST: Belgium Museum of Costume and Lace

The workmanship on the garments was exquisite.
Mere steps from our Brussels Hotel was the Museum of Costume and Lace.

Be still my beating heart!!

It was that wonderful.

You were able to see different styles as we walked along.

They were beautiful and versatile too.
If you look behind the dress…a little to the left, you will see a fitted jacket to match.

The lace could come off and the jacket put on.

They told you exactly when the dress would be worn. Such as a Walking Dress or a Morning Dress etc.  It was so interesting to read the information and see the actual dresses.

The lace shawl is so, so fine.

You would not expect such a wonderful collection based on the outside of this building.
It is not to be missed.

More to come in the next post….

WBR Museum - Creole Cottage

This dress was displayed in the Creole cottage.

The WBR Museum in Port Allen, Louisiana includes some furnished buildings.
We were lucky to receive a guided tour…included with the price of the museum.

This is a classic French Acadian style home.

I love just about anything that is handmade.

I find the colors and stitches on this quilt give it a comfortable look.   The stitches are not perfect, neither is the piecing.  But it is a beautiful.

We need to remember that it's ok not to be perfect stitchers.

The lovely old beds had (of course) mosquito netting.

Always love the blue and white dishes!

And no cottage would be complete with out a Sewing Machine.

Next…the Plantation Store.
