Baby Boys - My Grandfather

Wishing we could see the garment details!
Photograph taken in Mason, Iowa

This was what a Baby Boy wore for his first Portrait in the late 1800's.

My Grandfather.

Cute Smocking from Mary's Antiques and Collectables

This is a cute little Smocked Diaper Shirt.

It was for sale at Mary's Antiques and Collectibles in Ponchatoula when I stopped by the other day.

It is very crisp and perky with the pink and blue smocking against a soft white fabric.

And I love the old fashioned Bullion Flowers!

Antique Baby Dress Three

Baby Dress Three was not a Bishop Style but was a lovely Tucked Yoke Dress.

Oh, the fun this must have been to make!

I love Hemstitching and this is dainty and fine!

The hem is also embellished with fine Hemstitching and embroidery!

And the back of the Baby Gown is as fancy as the front, which I particularly like.

Antique Baby Gown Two

More Featherstitching on this hem!

And tucks with pretty lace.

With a sweet, sweet sleeve!

It was another Bishop Style with Smocking!

Oh, the fabric is dreamy….

Antique Baby Gown One

Also while teaching for the fun Sip and Sew, I was overjoyed to examine some stunning family Baby Gowns.

This one had Smocking and was a Bishop style.

The hem was beautiful.

I was not surprised to see the unfinished edge on the inside of the gown.  It is odd to me that so many of the old garments are so obviously made by skilled fingers but the inside is not bothered with at all.

AND, it is still intact despite all the washing this gown must have had through the years!

Featherstitching delightfully stitched!!

Saga Sew and Share Treasures!

The Saga National Convention might be over but I am not done telling you about all the exciting fun I had!

When Sew and Share was over….I got to take these treasures home!
(Thank you Mary!!)

Pretty Hemstitching and tucked details on this one.

And the blue and pink smocking appeals to me here.

I wish you could feel how yummy this fabric is.

This is a little information about them.

I will be sharing them with you in the future!!

Teaching for The Smock Shoppe- The Sweetest Daygown

The sleeve of the Daygown had Featherstitching around it.
Mary had the sweetest little antique Daygown at The Smock Shoppe.

She told me I could share it with you!!

The sleeve was gathered by shirring it.

The Double Featherstitching was fine!

This little Daygown was of primary interest because of  the Whipped Tucks or Over Tucks as they are also called.  We were learning how to stitch them in class.

They were stitched on either side of the center front.

A close up peek of them, along with the pretty Featherstitching on the collar.

I love it when I have examples stitched on vintage garments.

Mary was a gracious hostess and I had a real good time!!

The End!

Treasures From Annapolis

This sweet little baby gown came home with me.
It was alot of fun looking in the shops in Annapolis, and we found some treasures there!

This baby dress has a  beautiful yoke.
This dress belongs to Marlene,  she brought it to class to show me.  She was telling me how she had found it in an antique shop in Annapolis recently.  Then she pulled out her IPhone and showed me a picture of a pretty baby dress that she didn't buy.  And it was MY dress!!  The very same one I bought that is the top picture in this post.

How funny!  And lucky me, that she left it for me to find!

Her dress was exquisite and I understand why she chose it.  The yoke was made all in one piece.  Beautifully embroidered.

I liked the ruffle at the neck and sleeves.  It was a very tiny fabric ruffle, trimmed with lace edging.  Very dainty.

This is the inside of the sleeve.  I have to peek inside to see  how it was finished.  This dress was made by hand.  you can see how the fabric is rolled and whipped.

And this was the end of another lovely day.
