Starting a New Project!

I went from a spanking clean table to this in nothing flat!!

That's just the way it is with designing.

Because first, I need to pile everything  on the table to see how it all fits my own image of the design I am doing.

I have lots and lots of pretty lace (lucky me!) to choose from.  

But making the final decision is still hard to do.

This is what I chose to be my Fancy Band of Lace. 

All are Maline Laces.  You can't get much fancier than that!!

Stitching an Old Fashioned Baby Dress

I am busy stitching in preparation  for the Saga Convention next month.

This is the project for one of the classes I am teaching!

It is a sweet little Baby Dress.

No pattern for sale for this dress at the moment.

Maybe after convention.

Planning A Baby Daydress

I will soon take a few days away on a Sewing Holiday!

My Friend and I are going to a Lakehouse to burrow away and stitch!

And I am planning my project.

How Fun!!

I have selected View 3 of Revised Baby Daydresses.

And after much looking at laces and pairing the lace with the fabric, I have decided on both lace and fabric.

The fabric is a pale pink Swiss Batiste.  The lace is newish from Capitol Imports.  A beautiful lace!   It is off white or pale ecru and looks divine with the pink fabric.

There is plenty of embroidery on this Daydress to satisfy my fingers.

I can't wait to begin!!

Designing - For Sew Beautiful Column

The first thing I do  is to look through old books and magazines.  Sometimes I am looking at old baby clothes.   And I have a notebook and  files where I often jot down ideas.  I can always get article ideas from my files but I love to design.

Since I have been writing a regular column for Sew Beautiful magazine it feels like that is what I do most of the time.  No sooner do I get one article shipped off, but another due date is looming!

I require a Deadline to accomplish anything.  And it has to be imposed by someone other than myself.

I have chosen Anchor floss.  Pink, #48 and green, #213.  Pretty colors, both!

After deciding What I am doing, then I work on How I am doing it.  And part of the fun is in the choices.  That's also the most time consuming part for me.

And because I am doing handwork I am listening to a book on tape on my ipod. 

When everything's decided, I can just sail through the stitching part.

 I am listening to "Christy" by Catherine Marshall.  If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it.  I think I have read it 3 or 4 times over the years but this is the first time I have listened to it.

Of course I chose pretty lace!  The little edging is one of my new favorites.

Soon it will be done and off to Sew Beautiful.

It's going to be pretty, I think!

Moving Along to My Tucked Daygown!

I have moved on to another design that will be included in my new Daygown pattern. 

I really want this pattern to be ready the first part of the new year and I think I can do it!    I am always optimistic (or unrealistic as some would say) that it won't take long at all.  And I have to make decisions along the way.  And I am a slow decision maker.  I will ask myself  "should I use this design between the buttons?"  ...."No?"... "Well, this one would look good."..."And so would this one!"  But I only need one so then I have to choose between all the ones I've decided will look good.

I have decided decision making is the hardest part about designing, as well as sewing!   Choices, choices.  Choices are the enemy of a simple life!!

I have typed the pattern instructions, using my hand written notes from when I first worked up this pattern.   Still have to draw and replace illustrations for this new pattern.

Using pretty soft green batiste for this daygown!

 Now, I will follow my typed instructions as I stitch my gown to see what needs clarifying.

It's really not an easy job to write pattern instructions!!

I do love sewing Daygowns, though!

Pretty Blue Daygown with Lace Frill

Little Blue Daygown with the lace edging attached.

I love the blue fabric and off white lace!  I am happy with my changes.

Here you can see the original  Daygown behind the Blue revised Daygown.  I only changed it a little and you might not even notice what I did!!  I made the lace design a little smaller.

I thought I was finished but now I am not so sure! 

 I look at this Daygown and I am thinking I might want to do something at the hem to balance the fancy yoke. Making the lace design smaller is somehow influencing me.    So I am off to add something to this Daygown.  Rats!! I already ironed it, too.

Pretty Blue Daygown.

Fairy Rose from my Garden.

I finished my blue daygown.

Actually, it will have gathered lace around the lace yoke.  But I wanted to show you before I stitched it on.

I like the simple look with just the lace insertion.  Very Boy, I think!

And love the sleeves.

With a pleat in the back.  And a Fairy Rosebud stitched on the pleat.

Will show you how it looks with gathered lace next!  Gotta go stitch it.

The Fairy Rose

Sprays of tiny, double, rose pink flowers against petite, dark green  leaves combine to make "The Fairy" a tidy , handsome, and useful shrub.  Antique Rose circa 1932,  disease resistance is better than that of most roses in its class.

Anyone can grow this rose!!  It is like a thorn bush with flowers!

My Blue Daygown!

Moving along!  I have the lace insertion on the yoke, the entredeux stitched on the neck (but not finished) and part of the yoke embroidery done.

I am sitting in my garden again.  But it is now in the 60"s so forget the shade! Let that sun shine on Me!!   I'm sitting in the afternoon sun.

I am making this little Daygown primarily by Machine.  Most of my garments are a mix of hand and machine.  But because I wanted to sit outside and stitch, I am stitching the second seam of the French Seam by hand.  Normally I would have just used the machine.  It is nicer by hand.  Really!

OK. Didn't take long to finish the sleeve seams.  It is looking like a Daygown now, don't you think?  I love this Dot  Maline lace.  I am crazy about it!

My little Sweetheart Rose! 

I love it best just before the bloom opens up. The bud is so tiny and perfect.

Blue - Stitching in my Garden.

I am spending my afternoon sitting on my patio stitching my little blue daygown.

Shaded by my Passion and Morning Glory Vines.

This picture was taken 2 days ago in the low 70's in Baton Rouge!  Just Beautiful.

Pretty blue fabric with soft ecru lace.

Pattern has Lace To Fabric on the cuff but I decided to use entredeux just to see how I like it on this daygown.   I like it!

"Heavenly Blue Morning Glories" planted in late spring.

Aren't they fantastic?

The weather cooled and they came out to play!

Blue is my favorite color!

What's Jeannie Doing??

I am into the final stages of getting my new take me home/baby's first daygown printed.

Well, in the first stage of the final stages!

I meant to take a picture of the totally cleaned off table.  It was amazing!!  But I got too excited and started right away with finishing this pattern!

These are some of the daygowns from my Summer of Daygowns.  The Daygowns for this pattern.

I need them out to look at them as I work.

First, I had to decide which three views would go in the pattern!

This was hard for me because I like all of them.

I have to be practical. 

And I decided that one of the selected views needed to be a tad bit revised.

I re-drew it and now I am making another Daygown with the revised design.

There is no other way to know if it will be exactly what I want.

I love my work!

My Friend made 8 Daygowns.  I made 6. She is much faster than me.  But that's ok.

White Wednesday - Baby in Pretty White Daygown

Make a Daygown from OFB Baby Layette pattern.

Beautiful Baby in White Daygown

Long sleeves and sweet embroidery.

And long enough to cover baby's little feet!

I am working on a new "take me home" daygown pattern.

I receive many calls wanting a smaller daygown that will fit better for going home from the hospital.

This little baby is 2 months old and weighs 10 lbs.

Still working on what designs to include.  

But love these sleeves!

How many daygowns did it take me to get this sleeve???

Quite a few.

It's not as easy as it looks!!
