Antique French Acadian Short Gown

Thankyou, Mary for sharing your gown with me!
This wonderful little Gown was made in South Louisiana.
It is the French Acadian Style that was popular here beginning in  early 1900.

Every stitch by hand.

This dress has some different features from the one I made into a pattern.
To copy Mary's gown is on my "hope to do in 2015" list.

Loves Pure Light - 2014

There was the true Light (Jesus) which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.  John1:9

Jesus spoke saying"I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life".  John8:12

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.  For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through him"John 3:16

Happy Christmas.

A Walk in The Woods with John James Audubon

Last month we took advantage of a FREE program at the Audubon State Historic Site.

A tour through the woods guided by John James Audubon (actually, it was an actor representing him).

We listened to bird calls.
Amazing that many of our group could "name that bird" by the sound.

There was lots of beauty in the woods.

And several big scary spiders!  Click to enlarge.

It was a wonderful morning.  The park includes a home where John J. Audubon lived  as a tutor.
He went through the woods to draw birds of the area.

In St. Francisville, Louisiana, it's a great place to visit.

Emma's Birthday Quilt

I am crazy about the art of  Cicely Mary Barker.  Famous for her lovely Flower Fairies.

Above is her illustration of a Rose Flower Fairie.

Emma's favorite color is Pink.

For her birthday I made her a little Quilt.  Large enough to cover her but small enough to carry around.  I took a fabric panel, stitched borders to it, had it professionally quilted and then folded the backing over to create the binding.

Then I hand embroidered a Label to stitch to the back.  I used two strands of floss and just embroidered over my own handwritting to make it personal.

Added the date and a Bullion Rose.

And a scripture.

She loved it.
And we both were happy!

It's Sew Heavenly - Christmas Bishop

Brenda from It's Sew Heavenly, where I taught recently is a busy bee.

This cute red Smocked Bishop lacked only the neckband being sewn down.

It's probably done by now.

These smocked Bears are a favorite of mine!

And the red Whip Stitch Piping (everything available from It's Sew Heavenly) makes this little dress  striking.

Don't you love how the piping looks on the sleeve?

It sets it off to perfection!

The owners, Brenda and Lacie, are very talented women who are waiting to help you choose your next sewing project.  They have an extensive selection of the best materials for Heirloom Sewing as well as cute prints for play clothes.

Put this treasure on your Bucket list to visit!!
