Hexie Flowers

I have chosen the background fabric for my Hexie Flowers.

Cute, huh?

I love the little white on white polks dots!

I am hand appliquing the flowers to the fabric, which is very peaceful sewing!

Slow Sewing!

Here is a garden of Hexi flowers.

I have been stitching them for ....YEARS! And to tell the truth, I never expected to actually get enough to make a small quilt.  I just liked stitching them.  I took them on the plane to stitch when I traveled.  Or in the car. I can't leave home without handwork to stitch. Am I the only one?  They are mindless stitching, easy to pick up and easy to see with out extra lighting. 

Thanks (but no thanks) to Covid, I have spent more time watching TV than the entire previous years of my life.  So, I had plenty of time to stitch mindlessly and here is the result!

A good thing!

But I have trusted in Your lovingkindness;

My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.

Stars!

I have just finished Block #12...

 in my Sister Star Challenge, that I am doing with my sister, Kathy.

I love, love, love sewing on my old Featherweight Sewing Machine, although it does take a bit more upkeep.  I oil it weekly. I think I mentioned that I first learned to sew on this machine and it belonged to my Mother. 

This machine just hums along.....love the sound too!

Here are all 12 blocks.  

The photo has a pink tinge but that is the lighting.

Sister Star Blocks

This is Block 8

As I have told you, my sister and I are doing a Sew Along with just the two of us.

She lives in Ohio and I live in Louisiana.

Only rules are.... we make one star block a week.  Any star, any fabric.

I am using the same  few patterns and changing the blocks slightly by using different fabrics in different places.  

Above are actually the same  two blocks.

We  have now finished 8 Blocks.

Originally we had agreed to 12 blocks but my sisters pattern required 16 blocks. So we have added four more blocks.

Which suits me very well because 12 blocks would not have been enough.  With 16 blocks I can have a square Quilt.  I might want another row down though.  Which would mean I would need to do an extra 4.  I am a wait and see, visual kind of  person so no decision right now.

Also, I might run out of fabric. Yikes!

Lilly's Pinwheel Quilt

Lilly's Pinwheel Quilt is complete!

It's been washed, label stitched on and ready to give.

On her first birthday..... less than a couple of weeks.

This is the scripture I chose for the back of her quilt.

She is such a happy little girl.

She certainly does make a joyful noise!

I took a lot of photos because I am so proud to have it finished!

I used cute 30's Fabrics to make it.

They were in a Charm Pack so it was very easy.  The assorted fabrics all went together without any angst on my part!

I hand embroidered the label.

My Brown Dog was not much interested.  

He just wants to be around.

I hope you are enjoying sewing during this hard time.

It makes me happy!

Featherweight Sewing Love - Lizzie's Legacy

My Friend came to stay a couple of days with me to work on our Lizzie's Legacy Quilt.

She brought her Featherweight Sewing Machine.

I have 21 blocks stitched in many different pink prints.

We have only stitched on our quilts when we have been together.  We began our quilts in Feb, 2017. She lives four hours away so we haven't been able to stitch together as much as we'd like.

My Friends blocks are  looking like a Quilt!!

My Friend finished all 30 of the blocks she needed for her quilt.  And she already had the plain blocks cut out and ready to stitch.  Before she left, her blocks were stitched together in strips and some strips were together too.

 As she left my house she said "I hope I don't have to wait until we get together again to finish this!"  Ha Ha.     She is so close to finishing, she will have it complete in no time.

In this close up you can see that the plain blocks are made of a small print.  It's the same background fabric as mine, except mine is pink. 

This quilt is on page 38 of  Betsy Chutchian's book Lizzie's Legacy.  The book  has quotes from Lizzie's journal which gives you a glimpse into her Pioneer life. 

"This morning I quilted some - in the evening I and Martha picked geese - Martha White came down this evening and I sewed a little for her on the machine - she in turn helped us pick geese."  from Lizzie's journal on February 7, 1876

Kathy's Quilt

While I was in Cleveland, my sister and I stitched on her lap quilt.

(she stitches, I iron)

It's made using cute fabric triangles and white fabric.

I really like it.

Her dog, Penny, was pretty curious about it.

She has since put a border on it. 

Has made the quilt sandwich (batting between front and backing)  and is Hand Quilting it.

A Cute Quilt in Cleveland

Remember this photo from JEllens Quilt Shop?

I love the Square Quilt.  The size looks like a Baby Quilt.

It is made from small printed fabric squares alternating with  white fabric. 

It's very cute.  

You could use those tiny mini charm packs (2 1/2"square) or cut your squares from  a Jelly Roll of cute fabric.

At first I thought it was odd and charming.

Quilts in the Bathroom of Fabric Shops.

Now I find it simply delightful!

And it seems to be a common decorating scheme to have a cute Quilty Bathroom.

Londyns Baby Quilt (#1)

I never did post a photo of the completely finished Baby Quilt I made for my Granddaughter.

The cute old fashioned squares were given me by a friend.  I sashed them with a pretty pink.  Added a border and bound the quilt with the same fabric as the sashing.

Here we have Herself on the quilt so you can see the size (she is just over 7 lbs so is quite tiny).

Baby enjoyed being on the wide open floor and was a curious little girl.

Featherweight Stitching

It's winter outside my Sewing Room now.

And it gets dark early.

I had the pleasure of stitching with my Friend.  She brought her Featherweight Sewing Machine.

My Friend made three quilt blocks…wow!

I admit that I was busy stitching a Smocked Baby Bonnet to match the Christmas Daygown for my Granddaughter.

It's cold and she needs it!!

Featherweight Fun in September

I stopped Baby Gown Stitching for a day, to enjoy my Friends visit.  She brought her Featherweight Sewing Machine. We began this quilt together last February.

I love sewing on my Mom's old Featherweight.

We had a nice Tea Party.

Everything tastes better on Blue and White Spode China.

With a Friend.

I made Walnut Scones.

But don't worry, I have the Baby Gown sleeves completely finished and ready to stitch to the Gown.  And…the lace insertion on the hem sewn on.

Featherweight Friends

My Friend and her Featherweight Sewing Machine came to visit again.

I love our sewing time together.

We are still sewing our "Lizzie's Legacy" quilt.

Hers is blue, mine is pink.

All these blocks represent many joyful hours spent sewing with my Friend!

The day passed too quickly.

 After she left I prepared and stitched another block.  I love sewing these blocks. 

Each one is different but similar!!

Sewing With Bunny

Bunny gave me this Spode Friendship Mug.
