Sew Sew's in May

These Hexies are for  the current program at the French Handsewers Saga Guild.

We're making a pincushion.

I love the confetti of fabric scraps.  It is so colorful.

Diane is making another wedding Garter from silk fabric and pretty lace.
If you look close you can see the tiny beads she's attaching.

My neighbor came to join us today.
She is the neighbor I stitch with Thursday evenings. She is a hand quilter (and piecer)

Laura has been distracted from her smocking by my Brown Dog.
He usually goes to Doggie Play Day when I have company but not today.

One you pet a lab, they will stay hopefully by your side.
They can never get enough attention!

Sewing Friends.

Jennie shared her lovely dress with me.  I would like to copy it.

More pictures of this vintage treasure next post!

Under-tuck Baby Daygown Class

I have been teaching at Beth's Heirloom Sewing Shop in Wetumpka, Alabama

We hand stitched the tucks and learned about Under -tucks. The short version of Under-tucks is that they add additional fullness to a garment.  Cool and very Old Fashioned!

The ladies also mitered and stitched lace to our Daygown.
And learned to hand stitch the tucks for a soft finish.  And we learned that it isn't hard to do it!

After the first day of class, Beth gave me a tour of Wetumpka.  Then we stopped at the River Park and took a long and lovely walk along the river path.

Wetumpka is a pretty little town!

More to come…..

Love this Liberty!!
One of the ladies bought this fabric to make herself a nightie.  It feels soft and smooth and wonderful.  Perfect for the sweetest dreams.

Believe it or not!

All this fabric is the finest Swiss Batiste, Lawns, Dotted Swiss, Swiss Voile, Swiss Dimity…..etc.

Beautiful Lace?

Bins of Beautiful Lace.

And bolts and rolls of cute edgings and trims.

Farmhouse Fabric shop is always open on line but the Shop is only open to the public for classes and one day a month so call before you visit in person.

Where is Jeannie?

Well, I'm in Orlando at The National Smocking Arts Guild of course, with all the cool kids!

Today is our first class day (not counting pre-days) and everyone is excited!

The first class I'm teaching is my Playing with Lace - Heirloom Pillowcase.

We are learning how to Pinstitch over applique cord and miter lace.

And we are shaping lace so we can go home and make that portrait dress we've been afraid to do.

And stitching embroidery!

Stitching gathered Lace Edging so it is pretty and even is important to every garment that has lace on it.

And the pesky question about how you cross over laces nicely.

Our finished project!

The really best part though…..is seeing old friends and meeting new ones!

It's Sew Heavenly - Come to Class this Fall

Brenda and Lacie are the heart of "It's Sew Heavenly".
They are the ones who choose the best and prettiest fabrics  and laces to offer.

They have created an atmosphere where you are inspired to sew and they are happy to help you find the right materials for your project.

They keep the classroom small so the students can get more out of the class.
Smaller classes mean more personal instruction.

I'm very excited to be going back to teach for It's Sew Heavenly this fall.
They treat every one of us like we are "Queen for the Day"

It's Fun!

I'm in the throw's of makeing the beautiful Dress for the Class Project.
I am using Toddlers Summer Dresses Pattern.

But the lovely dress we are making has been created just for this class.

Our Dress will be….Linen, Lace and Beautiful Embroidey!
Add a touch of Hemstitching and Construction Techniques and this class is the perfect combination.

Join us as we make a lovely Summer Dress.

This is not the dress but it will be similar.
The yoke is embellished with lace that is attached with just a wee bit of hemstitching.

Both bodice and skirt are lined for a nice finish and you can choose to make Size 1,2 or 3.

The Techniques included in class are - Lace that is attached to fabric with the Hand Hemstitch (Just a little bit of Hemstitching can add quite a splash to your garment!), Machine Stitched Tucks, Lace to Fabric, Lining the dress and construction of a sleeveless Yoke dress.  Some special Embroidery Stitches are included along with old favorites. You will love the hem I have designed for you.

The Old Fashioned Double Featherstitching (or I could call it the French Acadian Antique Featherstitching since I learned it in South Louisiana).  This Featherstitching is unique in that there are no written instructions for it, except for Jeannie B's Embroidery Book and I am very keen in bringing back this beautiful stitch.

 Irish Bullion Rose

Another Stitch I have garnered through examining antique Baby Clothing is the bullion Irish Rose.  The center of this flower is an Eyelet with Bullions stitched in such a way that I think it resembles the Irish Rose.  I will show another way for when you just aren't in the mode for stitching eyelets!

We will also make a pretty Heirloom Pillowcase to practise our new skills on.

And come away with two lovely projects.

There will be three wonderful days of fun and informative stitching by hand and machine.

I hope to see you there.

Creative Needlework Market - Post Two

This is a booth that everyone runs to when the market opens.

They bring lots of fabric and also have a special sale section.

These bolts of fabric go fast….come early for best selection.

Products From Abroad is an interesting Booth.

Lots of pretty and neat trims.

I hope the shop near you brought home a box of French Ribbon like this.

They are all so pretty.

The blue with pink roses is my favorite.

Ginger Snap Designs was also at Market.
She had lots of cute samples and all her patterns and books available for purchase.

There were more booths that I didn't get a chance to photograph.

I think we all had a real good time!

Creative Needlework Market - Fun!

Welcome to "The Old Fashioned Baby" Booth at the Creative Needlework Market!

Wholesale - For the trade.
Ask your shop keeper what they brought home!

It was held in Birmingham this past weekend.

I had all my goodies to sell, including vintage buttons.
I have so many buttons that are only available at market.

And I had special Market prices!

And garments displayed for inspiration.

This is the lacy version of my pattern Baby Rose.

I have a few pictures of other booths too.

Farmhouse Fabrics had a booth across from me so I got to see all the fun trims they brought with them to sell.

And the samples they brought to show the cute ways you can use them.

Seeing garment samples is one of the reasons you come to market.

It gives you ideas to bring home to your customers.

And the opportunity to purchase just the items you need to duplicate the samples.

One of my favorite booths is…of course... Capitol Imports.

Purveyor of fine lace and fabric.
Do I love lace?
You bet!

Capitol Imports always brings something to tempt me.

And at special prices not available for purchase any other way.

See more on my next post….
