Toddler Summer Dresses - Shadow Embroidered Version.

I plan to post pictures of all my patterns this year.  Some pictures you have seen but I hope you are inspired all over again!

This little dress is made from Pinwale Pique fabric.  

Very Summery!!

The hem is easy as can be with a Swiss Edging trim that has 4 strands of embroidery floss woven through it.  The floss accents the blue embroidery and the piping.

Miss Dot made this Toddler Summer Dress for Farmhouse Fabric to display.

She was inspired to create her own embroidery design.  The yoke of this little dress is the perfect canvas for embroidery of any kind.

I really like the piping at the bottom of the hem.  She used a fabric to face the hem, sandwiching the piping between them.  Very cute and clever is Miss Dot!

This is is a very easy dress to make and comes in size 1, 2 and 3 in one pattern.

Fabric requirements for this View up to size 3 is:

57" wide fabric - 1 Yard

45" wide fabric - 1 3/8 Yard

Saga Convention Class - Shadow Embroidery

Beginning Shadow Embroidery project is a little Pillow Slip.

I will be teaching Beginning Shadow Embroidery at the Saga Convention in Frisco, Texas.

If I get around to it, I will have this nightie pattern at the Saga Market.

Sweet and comfortable. Embellished in the same design.

Cute enough for a summer dress.

I love the look of Shadow Embroidery. 

 It looks like it would be tricky but it's  a pretty easy stitch.

More Fun With My Sew Sew's

Another Fun time sewing with my friends.

Two of my friends had kits to make this quilt.  You can see that Lorraine had most of hers done.  She was hand quilting it.

My favorite square!

The little children squares were cut out and stitched alternatly with solid fabric squares.

We had serious Louisiana fare.  

Sensation Salad with the dressing right out of the Baton Rouge River Roads II cookbook and a Muffelatta. 

I loved the centerpiece.  

Bunny had filled her teapot with flowers from her garden.

Laura was working on Shadow Embroidery from her Retreat nightgown.

Carole is doing fine stitching on a rug for her Granddaughters dollhouse.

I love the braided ribbon Scissor keeper.

And I always have to look over the garden.  

A relaxing day with everything a person could want.

Friends, stitching, good food and flowers.

White Wednesday - Pretty Shadow Embroidery.

Little dress and embroidery were made by a  Friend.

I first printed this Embroidery design on a gown in Creative Needle...a long time ago.

You can now find it in Antique Toddler Dresses,  Best Embroidered Baby Clothes Two and a slightly smaller version in my Jeannie B. Embroidery Book

Shadow Embroidery is lovely and not difficult to stitch.  Old Fashioned Shadow Work embroidery, originally called cross backstitching, consists of stitches worked on the wrong side of sheer fabric.  The result will be the closed herringbone stitch on the wrong side and double rows of backstitching on the right side with the thread from the back shadowing through to the front.

It was often worked with white thread on white fabric which gave a very elegant look. Today it is mostly colored threads used on linens and fine children's clothing. Beautiful, anyway you stitch it!
