Memphis - More...

I saw this beautiful dress while teaching for  the Memphis Area Smocking Guild.

I told you in the last post that the ladies in the Memphis Guild were a "stitching bunch".  

Here you see Leslie stitching on a dress instead of taking breaks.

She did have a real need to stitching it up, though.  It was to be worn by a little girl the next day for an Easter Egg hunt!  Talk about pressure.

Women who sew know about pressure!

Of course there was a matching Easter Bonnet.

Leslie stitched lace under the fabric ruffle to give it body and help the ruffle stand out.

The set was beautiful!

I sure would have liked to have seen the little girl wearing this outfit!

Memphis...Amazing Vintage Gown

Yoke of gown.

This amazing gown is quite old...probably 1800's.

This is Virginia holding the amazing gown.

She has an amazing husband too.

All the ladies want him!

This gown had a matching slip.  It is actually a "pinning blanket".  A very old form of a slip.

Virginia's husband goes to Estate Sales.  And he finds things for Virginia.

He has an excellent sense of what she will like.  He seem to know what I would like too (isn't that amazing - since he's never met me!).

And the skirt is finished with lovely lace too.

Lace Yoked - Baby's First Daygown

finished!

This is the Daygown I stitched for my class with The Memphis Area Smocking Guild.

It is an adaptation of View 2.  I used a flat Lace Edging instead of Insertion and gathered Lace Edging.

Made with my white Daygown Lawn.

The Daygown Lawn irons up so nice and fresh.

Isn't it pretty in my roses?

I made this Daygown in size Infant (the Newborn is included in the pattern). 

The Daygown looks great in my amazing Roses.

And I used the 3/4 length sleeve, which I really like!

By the time you get to this photograph, you realize that these pictures are no longer about my Daygown.  I am just taking pictures of my Roses and sticking the Daygown in my pictures!

So.... here's to my pretty Roses!

The Peggy Martin Rose (or Katrina Rose).

Looks like 7 Sisters, but it's not.  And no thorns either.
