A Week of Sewing in Pictures - Day2

I completed the embroidery design near the hem and began construction on my Daygown.

The fabric is a wonderful Linen.

I haven't removed the Fabric Marker lines from the embroidery.  But I can see that it came out cute.   The design is from my Embroidery Book.   I can't decide if I want any embroidery at the top of the Daygown.

When in doubt….wait.

After it's finished I will know if I need or want more embroidery.

I chose the Buttons so I could stitch the buttonholes.  I always stitch the buttonholes before I put on the Neck Binding.  The fabric feeds better and the buttonholes look nicer.

I had a visit with my Quilting Neighbor and brought along my Peter Rabbit Baby Blanket to quilt.

I love the way the quilting causes the figures to pop out.

And I love Peter Rabbit.

Baby's First Daygown

Hemstitching a contrast fabric onto sleeve.
(to show my Hemstitched Daygown Class at SAGA this fall)

Decided to embellish the Daygown front with Shadow Embroidery.

I was stitching in my Garden on this hot Summer morning.

I love being in my Garden.

A Christmas Daygown and My Good Brown Dog

This photo bears repeating!!

Talk about "Sweet Dreams"!!

I threaded floss  through the holes of the  entredeux part of the Swiss Edging.
For those thinking about sewing for a Christmas Baby I wanted to remind them of Baby's Frist Daygown pattern.  Its cute and easy.

Here it is made from yummy Swiss Flannel fabric.  Soft and fine and brushed for warmth.  Not at all like the heavy flannel.

I lengthened the daygown so I could add a ribbon and cover baby's little feet.

The instructions for adding length and a casing are in the Sew Beautiful Magazine Nov/Dec 2011

I used Bias Binding at the neck, red and green Christmas floss and red ribbon to make it Christmas.

On another important note....

Me, Strider and the two wonderful Dog Obedience instructors
My Brown Dog passed the test and is now a "Canine Good Citizen"!!

What a good dog you are, Strider!!!

What I love about Swiss Edging!

A few of my favortite Swiss Trims.
I like Swiss Edging's  that are finished with entredeux.  The entredeux side is attached to the fabric just like you would attach entredeux to fabric.  And the edging side is...well the edge!

I used a Swiss Edging here to embellish either side of the front placket of Baby's First Daygowns.

It added just the right touch to this little Daygown.

On Toddler's Summer Dresses I used it at the hem.  Again I wove floss through the entredeux edge of the trim.  I love to do that on white fabric!!

On colored fabric's, I use it as is!

Perfect for the hem of a Baby Dress!!

A Baby Shower Gift Set

A Wonderful Baby Shower Gift!!
I close my eyes and I can  imagine my Friends niece opening the box that holds this beautiful collection of Baby items!!

What excitement!
Everything is beautiful all by itself.

I am so pleased that my Friend used my Daygown Pattern.

I can see that she stitched the front facing down by hand.
She stitched tiny tucks at the yoke and embroidered Featherstitching between the Tuck Sets.
A Bullion Rosebud is nestled at the end of the Featherstitching.

She worked a Bullion Rosebud in each four hole button that closes the Daygown Front.
The neck is finished with entredeux and edged with Lilly of the Valley maline lace edging.  This same lace pattern had been gracing  sweet baby  garmets for many, many years!
She stitched matching embroidery along the hem of the slip!

I love the way the slip peeks out from under the Daygown.
The lace insertion that is stitched around the hem (as well as the Bonnet  lace) was passed down from  my Friends Grandmother.

You might remember her lace  from a previous post!

Lucky you, if you have such family treasures!!

Green Baby Daygown

Baby's Frist Daygowns pattern by The Old Fashioned Baby.
This is my little green Daygown.
I've shown you this Daygown before.

Today, I want to point a couple of things out to you.  Like the lace insertion.  This gown  is the same style Daygown as the white gown in the last post except the fabric behind the lace has not been cut away.  It gives it a slightly different look.
See the difference?

I also  Pinstitched the back pleat, just like I stitched the white Daygown.  I love doing that.  The directions for the Pinstitched pleat are in the current Sew Beautiful magazine.

Nosy Brown Dog!

He had to see what I was doing as I was photographing the green Daygown.

Daygowns are wonderful!

Lace Yoked - Baby's First Daygown

finished!
This is the Daygown I stitched for my class with The Memphis Area Smocking Guild.

It is an adaptation of View 2.  I used a flat Lace Edging instead of Insertion and gathered Lace Edging.
Made with my white Daygown Lawn.

The Daygown Lawn irons up so nice and fresh.

Isn't it pretty in my roses?
I made this Daygown in size Infant (the Newborn is included in the pattern).

The Daygown looks great in my amazing Roses.
And I used the 3/4 length sleeve, which I really like!

By the time you get to this photograph, you realize that these pictures are no longer about my Daygown.  I am just taking pictures of my Roses and sticking the Daygown in my pictures!

So.... here's to my pretty Roses!

The Peggy Martin Rose (or Katrina Rose).
Looks like 7 Sisters, but it's not.  And no thorns either.

Have a Rosy day!

Making Another Daygown

I am making a Daygown for the class I am teaching in Memphis.  This class will be the first one to use my new pattern Baby's First Daygown.

I'm making it with a favored lace.  Lilly of the Valley.

Finishing the cuff with entredeux and embroidery floss.
Pretty!

Miss February - Baby Betsy!

Baby Betsy is wearing  View 1 of my new pattern "Babys First Daygowns".

OH MY!  says Betsy.
"It is the end of February and I am just now showing off my February outfit!"

"Oh well, better late than never." (what a great attitude she has!)

This cute sleeve  has a ribbon tie so it will fit any size little wrist.
There is Pretty embroidery and instructions for Swiss Trim at the front facing on this Daygown.

It is...after all, February, and it's bound to be cold somewhere!
Betsy is wearing her little embroidered Sacque from my OFB embroidery pattern "Sacque, Wrapper and Embroidery Designs".  Fifty embroidery designs included in this cute pattern.
Up on her perch where all she has to do is look pretty!

I want to let you know the progress on my patterns.
I have proofed the covers and patterns are (even as I type)  being printed.

You can pre-order them on  my web site.
(you can also order the kit for the Tucked Dress that appeared in Sew Beautiful)

The pre-orders will be the very first to be shipped.

Thank You...
for stitching up my designs!

I am joining with White Wednesday today.

On Printing Patterns - It Isn't That Easy

OFB Baby's First Daygowns....Upcoming New Pattern.  View 2

It just isn't that easy folks!  Well, not for me anyway.  I have been working on my new patterns for..ev..er!!

Many unforeseen things have hindered my progress... but now I am back to it.

The designing and stitching is nothing but fun, fun, fun.  I love it.  But the actual getting the pattern ready for you to make, is another story.  I want my patterns  to be easy for you to follow the instructions and I want your little garments to look just like mine.

However, I have been proofing the instructions (and the pattern with it) for some time now.  Everytime I read the instructions I see something I want to say differently.  So I change it.  And proof it again.

I was excited to be going over my FINAL proof when it spoke to me.  Complained to me,  actually!  It said..."you really need another illustration here to make it clearer".  I did not want to hear that.

Because... that means all my text needs to shift and be reduced to still fit the page.  But I did it.  Now, I have decided I need to MAKE the View 3 following my (I hope)  now FINAL instructions.

I want to have fun  making this little View 3 Daygown so I chose some very nice fabric and antique lace from my "keep for Jeannie" collection.

I put them all in my wonderful Sewing Caddie that my friend made me.

One thing that I didn't realize about it....I can drape the pressed  garment pieces over the handle and it will stay nice and crisp.  Wonderful!!

I will use these special buttons. Remember baby is to sleep on the back!
At one time, I had around 300 of these button cards. Imagine!  There is shiny foil over the cardboard.  Now they are all gone!

Back side of the Button card.
These wonderful buttons were from my button man.  He told me they were carded sometime in  the early 1900's.   He said he remembered his mother sitting at the kitchen table sewing buttons on cards.

OK, back to work!

"And the beat goes on..."  Sonny and Cher
(this song keeps going through my head)
