Albert and Victoria - Textiles 4

At  the Victoria and Albert museum there are free tours through out the day.

We went on the Medieval and Renaissance Tour.

I love the muted and lovely colors.

I wonder how they looked hundreds of  years ago.

Victoria and Albert Museum - Textiles 2

This Swaddling Band was in the same display case as the Bonnet posted earlier.

On my  recent visit to the Victoria and Albert Museum it was my purpose to look at textiles and design.

Below is more Mother and Child art.

Holiday Fun!

Flowers were blooming in gardens everywhere.
I am very impressed with all the parks in the city of London.

This is one of the old Shopping Arcades.  Beautiful!
We did some window shopping.

We saw Les Miserable at the Theater.
(Thank you to my sister for my total addiction to this show)

Vincent Van Gogh "Farms Near Auvers", 1890
Spent time at the National Gallery

We had Tea at the National Gallery, overlooking Trafalgar Square.
(Of course we had Tea!)

Good bye England!

Being with Victoria!

Holiday Food

Victoria and I had Dinner in the Crypt Cafe, below St. Martin in The Field, before our concert.

If you go to London, don't miss it!

What I learned about Victoria on our trip:
She loves food!

This wonderful little take away shop sold sweets but more to Victoria's  liking…..you can choose your favorite cupcake to be made into a Milkshake.

We had to go back the next day for her to have another one.

Fish and Chips as you can only have in the UK.
And my favorite…Mushy Peas!

The scones are wonderful but what I am crazy about is the clotted cream  that is always served with them.
Yes, Tea again!!
(note the clotted cream)

My favorite beer (?) on this trip was Samuel Smith Extra Stout.
Not sure Stout is a beer but it was dark and I loved it.

What I Love  about the UK:
Clotted Cream!!!!
:)

Everyone should have Tea at the  Victoria and Albert Museum.

The rooms are beautiful!

The scones were delicious.

And the trays were made using William  Morris prints.

On Holiday - London Music

Candle light concert at St. Martin in the Field.

Choir singing at St. Pauls Cathedral during Church service.

And we happened upon the London Symphony Orchestra giving a free concert in Trafalgar Square when returning from…

a free  Organ Recital at Westminster Abby.

Who could ask for anything more? It was all wonderful!

What I love about London:
The music!

Victoria and Albert - Textiles 1

Baby Bonnet - circa 1575

My Victoria and I went to the Victoria and Albert Museum.
A purposeful destination for me.

The problem with displays in museums is:
They won't let you touch anything!!

The next two photos of are the Madonna and Child.

I love anything depicting a Mother and her Child.

On Holiday - Umbrellas

In London - This was my favorite shop.

They make and sell really fabulous umbrellas.

I know you all can appreciate quality.  Who knew there was such a difference!!

They have been around since 1830.

What I love about the UK:

On Holiday - London

We had an express train from York to London.

No stops!

That's Big Ben in the background.  And the London Eye.
We saw the sights of London. Walking everywhere.

It was very busy at Buckingham Palace.
They were having a Tea.

Ladies and Gentlemen dropped off in cabs and escorted into the palace.

If it was really, really far off (or our feet got tired) we took the Tube around town.

What I love about the UK:
Train Travel!!

On Holiday- Day Tripping

We took a Day Trip from York, UK to the old Whaling Town of Whitby.

I loved the winding streets and the view of the ocean.

I think every other Englishman had their dog with them out and about.
They were all so well behaved.

Sign in a shop window.

We drove through the moors on our way there.

And on our way back, we stopped in a little town to see the Train Station where a scene from the Harry Potter movie was filmed.  I think it was the first one. Not sure.
The scene where Hagrid meets Harry at the Train Station to take him to Hogwarts.
(or is he saying goodby??)

The gift shop was ready for Harry Potter fans.

And it was such a lovely countryside.

What I love about the UK:

"Dogs Welcome"
