Fun in South Louisiana

One of my favorite people came to visit us last week.

We took her down to Avery Island to see the Tabasco Factory.
I love to see how things are made!

Be sure to find out when they are filling the bottles with Tabasco Sauce or you will miss the action part of the tour.  Like we did!

Me, sitting in front of the cool Country Store.

Inside, you could taste the different kinds of Tabasco Sauce,  which I thought would be fun.  I tried the new Chipotle flavor.  It was really good....then the fire in my mouth began to spread.  OH MY GOSH....someone help me!  So the nice sales girl handed me a small sample cup of coke.  Chipotle coke! Didn't help.  ...uh...Worse!!

But the ice cream did the trick.  Thank goodness.

Next, we took my Mother In Law on a driving tour through the Jungle Gardens.

There were alligators to be seen.
You can believe that we weren't about to feed them!

It was a beautiful drive and there were places to stop and look around but we were a little leery of the reptiles.  I could imagine them  waiting in the brush for unsuspecting tourists.

Avery Island was a fun place to visit.

This is South Louisiana.

We also went to the Red Stitch Farmers Market on Saturday morning.

My favorite was the fresh Basil.  Love that smell.

Then Gran made us fresh pizza with the produce we purchased.

Unbelievably good!!

Cafe au Lait on a Sunday Morning

A very favorite place in Baton Rouge is Coffee Call.

We all love the Cafe au Lait there.

And we're crazy about the Beignets.
They were making them by the ton last Sunday to keep up with the long line of people waiting for them.

The lady on the right, in the background, is cutting out the dough.
They never stop.

Traditionally, beignets are a square but these "fingers" are more popular.  I think it's because they cool faster (they come to you straight from the fryer) so you can eat them quicker and you can get way more powdered sugar on them.

They make us smile!

And we always clean our plate.

I Know I'm In Louisiana

You know you are  in Louisiana.....

when you see this sign at a Welcome Center!

You didn't know it..but I have been away.
And now I'm back.

My Granddaughter was ill over Thanksgiving and I went to Ft. Worth, Texas.
She is, thankfully, almost good as new!

Salad.
While I was there, I got to watch my daughter cook wonderful food.

My daughter (Granddaughters Mom) is becoming a Chef.  And makes amazing things.
Beautiful and tasty!

Winter Vegetable Soup.

Lemon Curd Tarts.
In a hurry, she purchased ready made tarts and made the Lemon Curd.  Each little tart has a Blueberry.  Wonderfully delicious!

After Maddie was on the road to recovery, I just enjoyed my visit!

For those of you who left phone messages and orders.
I am getting up right now to take care of them!!

Sorry for the delay, but family is important!

love, Jeannie
