Teaching For the Happy Sewing Friends

I spent 2 days with a happy group of Sewing Friends.

I was teaching a class on a Smocked Yoke Dress.

Especially for a sweet little girl…..

This little doll is wearing Toddler Summer Dresses in a Size 1
 May May

 Will model for Candy Corn!!

She was easily bribed.

And changed into the other view of Toddler Summer Dresses in a Size 2.

Yes, this is the size to make for next spring.

The ladies stitched with Sewing Machines.

And learned  hand stitches too.

It was a great  time of fun, food, stitching  and a whole lot of laughter!

We had a real good time!

Boston Stitch Party 2017

I will be teaching in Boston at the SAGA Spring Retreat and I am so excited about the classes they have chosen for me.

Hand Embellished Baby Gertrude

Hand Embellished Baby Gertrude class is all about learning great techniques that can be used to embellish all of your wonderful garments.  This sweet slip is the canvas we will be working on.

No Sewing Machine to lug to this fun class!

(antique baby dress/daygown from my collection)

French Handsewing For Baby

French Handsewing is soothing to my soul!
In this busy, busy world we need to slow down and enjoy the feel of fine fabric in our hands as we take pleasure in each stitch we take.  It is not hard to do and you will be thrilled with your efforts.  I can't wait to stitch the  baby dress/daygown with you (suitable for boy or girl baby).  It's a copy of an antique in my collection and I know you will love it too.

Please go to the Smocking Arts Guild web site to join Saga and sign up for the Retreat.

Fun Class in My Home

A nice bunch of ladies came to have a "Home" class with me.

We were stitching a day gown and learning mostly about hand sewing for babies.

First - a lesson laying out the pattern, pinning and cutting out the fabric.
(these ladies were seasoned stitchers so they were just looking for tips)

We talked about right and wrong sides of fabric, fabric grain lines and about how you always cut on the outside of the black line on my patterns.

We had a very pleasant day stitching!

We did some pinning and stitching  of lace insertion to fabric.

And finished out Front Facings by hand.

We tried some embroidery stitches, handmade Tucks, the Pinstitch and attaching lace down the Daygown front.

On the left is Mandy with her Mom - Super fun- having a daughter to sew with you!!!

You couldn't find a lovlier group of ladies.

Sewing Fun!

I had a great time teaching at Farmhouse Fabrics.

The students kept busy as we worked on a sweet Baby Dress.
This little pink dress was our project.

Shown is an edge stitch foot for stitching down the back facing.
We used our machine feet to help us stitch more accurately to make the job easier.

Karla is standing in front of some Baby Clothes I brought for display.

…more next post.

Teaching a Baby Bonnet at PBJ Kids Shop

Our Sunday class at Peanut Butter and Jelly Kids was a Baby Bonnet.

We spent a good part of the class embroidering Bullion Roses and Featherstitching - both the Regular  Featherstitching and the Antique Double Featherstitching.

Next, we mitered lace for the pretty Brim triangles.
Then gathered the lace edging and attached it to the lace beading.

We were pretty busy!

It's a class I teach as well as a pattern I sell.

I had a good time with all the students and Anna Marie - owner of Peanut Butter and Jelly Kids.

Next….a look at her wonderful Fabric Store!

Teaching at Peanut Butter and Jelly Kids

We had alot of fun in class at Peanut Butter and Jelly Kids!!

The first two days of class we were making Toddler Summer Dress - The fancy tucked version.

The ladies were a focused and hard working group.
Eager to sew and learn techniques.

In this picture a student is weaving floss through the entredeux  on the Yoke

A finished yoke - very pretty!

One student was a very busy girl and FINISHED  her dress!
She brought it in to show us on Sunday.
 Isn't it beautiful??

Everyone did a wonderful job on their dresses.
It makes me a happy teacher!

Wednesday, March 21

This kind lady (Ann)  and her husband hosted me in their home.

This was Ann's First Communion Dress. Love all the tucks!
It was made of Organdy as many of them were.

And I think the collar is very attractive too.  The lace edging is gently gathered onto the lace insertion.

Then,  someone brought in Vintage Pillow Cases to show me.
I love Old Embroidered  Pillow Cases!
Don't you love the Crochet worked in the Hemstitching.  The Hemstitching was done on the old Hemstitch machines..  And White on White embroidery is always elegant.

These are the three Pillowcases I was able to see.

Pretty pink and white embroidery here!

One more thing to show you next time.....

Fancy Snail Shirring Baby Bonnet

I am going to teach in St. Louis  and I have been busy preparing the classes.

I created a new class to teach and am quite pleased with it.
It is a Fancy Snail Shirring Bonnet.

It is a full day class and combines fine machine sewing techniques with lovely hand sewing.  The best of both worlds.  Tucks, Lace, Embroidery and Snail Shirring.

Stitching my favorite...Featherstitching.
Both basic and Antique Double Featherstitching.

Plus a little Ribbon Rosette.

I totally enjoyed stitching this bonnet and am ready to make another one.  It was pure delight and just enough hand sewing for me to carry about with me.  But it worked up pretty quickly.

I think it will make a great class project.

This is a picture in progress that I have shown you before.

I thought the in progress pictures would make more sense to you now that you see my finished little bonnet.

Goin to St. Louie!
