Pretty Baby Clothes / Victorian Smockers

Jane finished her Antique T-yoke Baby Dress.

Beautiful!

And Susan finished her T-Yoke Christening Gown from the same class I taught for the Victorian Smockers in Florida.

I love her Gown!

It thrills me to see the wonderful creations completed from a class I teach.

Thank you for sharing these pictures with me.

The Victorian Smockers

Victorian Smockers  - Chapter of Smocking Arts Guild of American

Sewing across America!

Working on our class project - Antique T-Yoke Dress, Gown or Christening Gown

It was fun to see these ladies again.

And extra fun to see some of the project from last year completed.

Last years project was from my "Baby Daydress" pattern.
It included Hemstitching on the dress and here is a Bonnet in the works, using some of the techniques taught in class.

Everyone was serious about learning this years techniques.

Stitching Lace Insertion to fabric was a focus in this class.

We were lucky to have a nice sunny day to sit outside and enjoy lunch.

More to come…...

Antique T-Yoke Baby Gown - Teaching

This is the gown in my "Antique T-Yoke Baby Gown, Dress and Christening Gown" Pattern.
I am teaching a class for the Smock Shoppe in Dothan, Alabama in a couple of weeks.

There is a choice between making the Baby Gown…..

…or the Baby Dress.  The only difference is the length and the choice of sleeves.

Both are beautiful garments…with a history.

See this Post to read about the History.

Teaching at Sew With Me.

Our classroom, teaching for  "Sew With Me".   Nice and roomy

Everyone was very busy at their work!

The Antique T-Yoke pattern has so many fun heirloom applications to learn.
We mitered lace and stitched it to the fabric.

And we stitched by hand and machine.

Some ladies made the Gown.

We modified the dress to leave the ruffle off at the bottom.  Very cute!
And some made the dress.

Both are lovely!

Linda's First Heirloom Dress!

I received a sweet note from Linda, and some pictures of the garments she made.
This beautiful dress is the First Heirloom Dress she had ever made!!

The pattern is my OFB

Truly lovely work!
For a photo of the original antique dress and the history…click Here.

Linda game me  permission to use her photos…she had told me in her first email that she made numerous mistakes and learned from every one of them.  That is the mark of a true stitcher….you don't throw your hands up and say "I just can't do this"….you keep on going!

Linda's words in her reply email:

"Wow!!!  There just may be others out there who are somewhat terrified to give heirloom sewing a try. If I were able to re-think my pattern choices I sure would not have picked the T dress for my first attempt! But it is so, so sweet!! The daygowns were much easier."

You will see the Daygowns next post!
