Antique Toddler Dreamy Dress

This Antique Toddler Dress is made from Swiss fabric and fine French Lace.

Isn't this a dreamy dress?

Sherry, who made it, used the View 3 bodice with a Tucks and Lace hem.

I know her Granddaughter just floated as she walked in this dress!

Thank you Sherry for letting me share these pictures.

Antque Toddler Dresses- View 1

Flat Baby Betsy is splendid in her fancy Dress.

This dress view is the actual reproduction that inspired the pattern.    I made  short sleeves for a little girly dress but the original had long sleeves and is part of the LSU Textile collection.

The Dress that I copied this from belonged  to a little boy.  Yes, that's right….it was worn by a little boy.

All the materials on this particular dress are antiques I had.  I am happy to tell you that there are plenty of "new" laces, trim and fabrics that can be used to make this beautiful garment.

I suggest: Swiss Batiste, French cotton Laces and Swiss trim.

I think the neatest thing about this dress is that it only looks like a Round Yoke Dress.  It is really a Square Yoke Dress that has a ruffle sewn onto the yoke to make it appear to be a Round Yoke Dress.

very cool

The pattern includes size 1,2 and 3 and makes a beautiful Easter Dress or Flower Girl Dress.

A little bit of history is sewn into this fabric.

Antique Toddler Dress - View 2 on Emma Rose

My Granddaughter, Emma Rose is wearing View 2 of Antique Toddler Dresses.

I saw this little dress on display at Peanut Butter and Jelly Kids shop when I was teaching recently.
It is a combination of View 1 and 2.

That's the wonderful thing about sewing.  You can make a dress anyway you want to!

She made  a very pretty dress.

And her embroidery is just beautiful!!

Amber in Antique Toddler Dress - View 3

My Granddaughter wearing Antique Toddler Dress View 3.

This pattern is a Basic Yoke Dress that has been fancied up.
View 3 is the simple version.  You can see it in the drawing below on the upper right hand side.

View 3  features a bit of lace insertion on the yoke front.  Under the lace insertion I have gathered lace edging to give it a frill (thrill?) and have embroidered a simple Featherstitching and Seed stitch above the insertion.  It was inspired by an antique dress.

This pattern comes included with  Size1,2 and 3.

Antique Toddler Dress

The dress is from my pattern "Antique Toddler Dress"
It fits a Toddler size 1,2 and 3.

The fabric and lace and trims are antique but you can find similar materials.
It has the look of a "Round Yoke Dress"….but it isn't.

This dress has three styles in the pattern and this is the fancy one.

It has a  mock round yoke.  Inspired by a dress circa 1900.

So, it is really a Classic Yoke Dress.

Pretty Dresses!

This lovely Dress was made using the OFB pattern "Antique Toddler Dresses".

Here you can see that the lace frill on the yoke creates a false round yoke look.
My Friend made two of them.
I think she told me they were Flower Girl dresses.

This hem is exquisite!

Made of Maline lace, tucks and Swiss Insertion.

Can a lace be more beautiful than this??

Baby Betsy as Miss November!

Miss November

Baby Betsy has a new dress on for November as  some of you suggested she should.  She is going to Thanksgiving Dinner at Grandmama's house.  And will meet several Aunts for the first time.

That called for something special!

She is wearing a dress from the Old Fashioned Baby pattern "Antique Toddler Dresses".  It is a little large on her but the size 1 looks fine.

The pattern has a Mock round yoke.  Which means it isn't a round yoke at all but only looks like one.  It is really  an easy square yoke pattern with a ruffle attached.

The sleeve band was made using Swiss Insertion for the band and  then lace edging was sewn onto it.  Notice that a narrow lace edging was stitched (by machine) to a lace insertion to create a winder lace edging.  Click on photo to enlarge.

The lace is antique and I didn't have a wide edging that went with it.  You can easily do that with lace that you have collected when you need a wider edging.  I actually think it is very pretty done this way.

Although this lace was old, it was readily available when the dress was made (but no longer).  This is a lesson for lace collectors (otherwise known as stashers) that what is available today, can not be had tomorrow!!  So rid yourself of any guilt when you add to your lovely lace collection.

This is the Fancy view in the pattern and there are two other versions that are simpler.  This dress is a very close copy of an Antique Baby Dress from the LSU Clothing Collection.

Pretty Pink Toddler Dress

Pretty Pink Dotted Swiss (the real Dotted Swiss) and off white Lace.
A sweet combination.

You might remember seeing this little dress from Easter  of 2010.  It was made by my friend Sherry for her Granddaughter.

Click on the photo for close up.
I had the good fortune to see this dress again 1 1/2 years later.  I thought you might enjoy  a close up picture.

I absolutely love the way this dress has "aged" just a little, giving it a soft and lovely look.  Her Granddaughter has worn this dress over and over again as it has become a favorite.

This is my Pink Saturday for this week.  Visit How Sweet The Sound for more pretty pinks!
