My New Sewing Machine Light

This light is just what I needed.  Now I can totally see what I'm stitching.

It mounts to my Sewing Machine with an adhesive.  You peal off the sticker and on it goes. If you want to remove it or move it, just wipe your machine with Goo Gone.

Bendable Bright Light, I have been waiting for you all my life.

The Cutest Thing Ever!!

This little Smocked Bubble was worn by my friends Granddaughter.

It was purchased.  Smocked probably in the Orient.
(I want you to know that no lovingly smocked garments were sacrificed for this blog post!)

But very Cute.

I love,love,love this quilt!

My friend collected several outfits her Granddaughter had worn.  And made this Memory Quilt.  I had never heard of such a thing, but Sienna tells me it is quite popular with the young Mom's today.

Her daughter in law gave her many outfits and let her choose which ones to include.

Fun for me to guess what they were….gingham bubble maybe?
Love the Silk Ribbon embroidery on this block.

This block is very interesting.

I love the way she used different parts of this outfit in one block.  Do you see the puffed sleeve on the left?

Sienna monogramed Sarah's name here.

I love the look of this machine embroidered monogram.
One of the cutest I've seen!

It is such a personal reminder for Sarah about how special she is.

White on White is always going to please me.
Kind of heirloomy.

Baby Gap on the label!!

This might be my favorite.  The Bonnet stitched in 3 dimensional form above the little outfit that it matches.

Notice the I'm The Big Sister T-Shirt?
Sienna, holding up part of this cute, cute quilt she made.

Although I would never cut up a special outfit made for my child, I think this is a wonderful way to use all the cute baby clothes your little one wore, including play clothes you made.   Anything that is not going to be passed along and is often relegated to a box in the attic or  given randomly away are good choices.

It would be fun to include  blocks made using left over fabric scraps from the garments you made your little one.  And such a special memory for Mom.  Also I can just picture the Toddler or Young child loving her very own Special Quilt.

Thankyou Sienna for sharing this with us!

Peter Rabbit Baby Blanket

I love Peter Rabbit.  I love Beatrix Potter and all her  cute little animals.

But I love Peter Rabbit the best.

Blanket in my quilting hoop.
This Baby Blanket is a panel of fabric printed with this Peter Rabbit (and friends)  art.

Under the  influence of my hand quilting neighbor, we sandwiched batting between the front Peter Rabbit fabric and a backing.  We stitched it right sides together and then turned it right side out, slip stitching the open area used for turning.

Then I put it in a hoop.  I take it down to her house to visit with her.
And stitch.

Last night we stitched by the fire in her fireplace.

You might be able to see better if you click on the photo to enlarge.  As I quilt (which is just the running stitch…by the way) the fabrics and batting together, it makes the area puff out.

More impressive in person I think.

But I am loving it.  As I stitch, it kind of comes to life in a 3 dimentional sort of way.

I'm having fun!

Last Day of Class at Peanut Butter and Jelly Kids

Third post on teaching at Peanut Butter and Jelly Kids!

On Day Three we had an Embroidery Class.

We spent a lovely day working the Featherstitch, Old Fashioned Double Featherstitch, French Eyelets, French Knots and a variety of Bullion Roses

You can do alot with those stitches!!

I love this Bonnet Collection.

Everyone seemed a little nervous because it was also the last day to purchase supplies before they drove back home!!  Decisions had to be made.

I love this little bonnet on display at the shop.

You can make it using my Baby Bonnet One pattern.  (My pattern does not include the puffing directions.)

I love that Anna Marie is so involved with the Girl Scouts.

She has BOXES of Girl Scout cookes for sale.
(memories of my girlhood…going door to door selling cookies)

I wanted to include this picture.  Peanut Butter and Jelly Kids  has a basketful of hand crocheted Booties for sale.  These have become hard to find in my neck of the woods!  The more you walk around the shop….the more interesting things you find.

On this last day of class Bettina brought in her dress all finished but for a touch of lace edging at the yoke.

Her dress is absolutely beautiful.

She finished the Bonnet too!!  Well Done!

My conclusionat the end of the day:

Baby's Tucked Yoke Dress and Classic Embroidery Stitches are both very good classes.

and

Peanut Butter and Jelly Kids Shop is well worth a road trip!

Day Two Peanut Butter and Jelly Kids

Embroidered Rosebuds and Featherstitching featured on our Bonnet.
We made a matching Bonnet for our sweet Daydress.  Many  lovely techniques included.  Tucks, Lace to Lace and Lace to Fabric (in a very cool manner) and pretty embroidery.

Ladies are examining our Class Project in the wonderful sun light pouring in the shop window.

And taking close up pictures!

More shopping on the second Day!

There are also many  lesser priced Liberty Look a Likes.

You can see my name on this bolt of fabric waiting to be cut!

I am using this fabric to make Baby's Smocked Layette dress.

It will be so cute in a sweet print!  I'll make the large (to 20 lbs.) size.

Here is the dress sleeve - completely finished by a student (Bettina).

It couldn't be any sweeter, just waiting for the pink ribbon threaded through the beading.

Teaching for Peanut Butter and Jelly Kids Shop

I just returned from Mobile where I taught a class at the Peanut Butter and Jelly Kids Shop.

We worked on my Tucked Yoke Baby Dress.

The pattern we used was Revised Baby Daydress.
This dress was designed for a class and is not in the pattern.

I met a  delightful group of ladies/students who were very attentive and eager to learn the techniques I used on our dress.

The ladies were equally  eager to see  the treasures for sale at this large and well supplied Heirloom Sewing Shop.

Don't you love a cheerful, friendly person to help you?

And we made our selections with much care and lots of shop help.

Web shopping will never be as satisfying as laying your eyes and hands on fabric, lace, trims and everything else in a Brick and Motar store.

All the merchandise in this Heirloom Sewing Shop will take your breath away!

New Daygown for Baby Boy!

The Baby Boy Daygown I have been stitching is finished and ready to give to the new Mother.

It turned out just the way I wanted it to.

I finished the neck with a Bias Band.  Stitched the little buttons on with blue embroidery floss.  Hand stitched the Swiss edging along one side of the front.

And embellished the Daygown with the simple Featherstitch and Pinwheel Posies.

The cuff has the same treatment as the front. But I stitched the Swiss edging on by machine, then used the hand running stitch and blue embroidery floss to anchor the cuff in place.

Ta Daaaa!!

Baby Boy Daygown in Blue.

Adorable.

Prayers for the new baby:  May this Daygown  wrap your new baby in love with sweet dreams and peace filled days.  May he learn wisdom young and follow in the steps of Jesus.  May he be filled with wonder and merriment at the beauty of Gods creation.

What I'm Reading ….again.

I love my fire.

Perfect with hot tea and a good book.

I have read the Mitford series of books and loved them.

I read one of the latest books in this series…"Come Rain or Come Shine"  and did not want it to end.

So, I decided to start reading the series of books over.  It is even better the second time.

The  beginning text  from At Home in Mitford : "He left the coffee-scented warmth of the Main Street Grill and stood for a moment under the green awning.
The honest cold of an early mountain spring stung him sharply.  He often noted the minor miracle of passing through a door into a completely different world, with different smells and attractions.."

I totally understand walking through the door to a different world.

My Brown Dog says "Hi" to you all.

My Old Fashioned Shoo Fly Quilt

My son's Shoo Fly quilt is completely done.

Just in time for his visit this weekend.  He has waited three years.

My Granddaughter, Victoria and I have been working on  this quilt almost every time she visits.

And we stitched it on my Mothers Featherweight sewing machine.

My Mother has been gone for over 25 years now and every time I sat at the sewing machine I thought about her using it. The Quilt is extra special because of it.

I also wanted Victoria to have memories stitching on that machine.  I am hoping in time it might be special to her too.

I stitched two Scriptures to the back of this quilt.  This fabric is purchased by the yard and you can choose the Scripture you like.

This is the label I stitched on the back.  When I showed it to my husband, he said "What's a Featherweight?"  Ha Ha….I didn't think about the fact that only a seamstress would know what it is!

It will be a mystery in years to come….to the common folk.

This is the entire quilt before it was quilted.

I adore this quilt.
I love the shoo fly pattern.
I am crazy about the fabric and I love the color blue.

I want to make another one!

Sew Sews in the New Year!

What a great beginning to the  New Year - 2016.

Stitching together with my Sew Sews.

We had a feast of Bunny's Chicken Salad and my Buttermilk Pound Cake.

And….I stitched the label onto my sons Quilt.

It was a good day!
