Freshwater Pearl Buttons - White

I just added these  3/8"  Shank Buttons to my Web Shop

They are Freshwater Pearl Buttons.   Many of the Freshwater Pearl Buttons come from the upper Mississippi River.  It is an industry that doesn't exist anymore but in it's hey day, was thriving.

Info about Pearl Industry  Here.

My Mother of Pearl Buttons are from old factories and have never been used.

What we love about the Freshwater Pearls is... they are White.

I love, love, love the creamy color of the Ocean Pearl Buttons.

But for some garments, I just want White!

Threads of Love Convention - 2016

The baby cloths are tiny at the Threads of Love Convention.

And the dear ladies come from all over to attend.

They bring gowns to display the work they do for Babies in Need.

This is a ministry about attending to the needs of Babies and their Family at times of distress.

Baby Bonnet with Embroidered Bullion Roses.

I spent one day teaching classes but the convention lasted for several days.

Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.
Before you were born, I consecrated you.

Austrian Button Card For Sale - Fancy

This Button Card is from Circa 1914.
They are hand sewn onto this card.
Each card has 1 Gross of Buttons.  That is 12 Dozen Buttons, which is 144 individual Buttons!

On the back of the card you can see how they were stamped "Made in Austria".

My Button Man would tell me how they were made just prior to WW1 and a bit about the geography of the countries before boundries were shifted after the war.

I think he told me that his Grandfather who started the Button Business came from that area of Europe.

These buttons have pretty carvings.  They measure 3/8" each.

These are great for Collectors, Button Lovers or people who want a quality button with a past!

Sew Sew's in April

Carole was embroidering a very old set of pre-stamped pillow cases. I always love her color choices.  Muted and lovely.

April is a beautiful month to meet for Sew Sew's.  Laura's Roses were blooming and draping over her trellis.  Wish I'd have taken a picture of that.
There is no beauty quite like Mother Nature!

Carole has an old piece of tatting that she plans to edge the Pillowcases with.
Embroidered Pillowcases - my favorites!!

Lorraine B. was smocking a lavender bishop for a new Great - Grandbaby.
I think she told me the color was a special request.

She attached the lace with a Machine Pinstitch.
Very pretty.

I was stitching lace to a pink French Acadian Sundress.

We had a real good time!!
(thanks for joining us)

Favorites - Swiss Edging with Scallops

Swiss Edging shown in  White on Top and Champagne underneath.

This is a favorite!
Swiss Edging with attached Entredeux for stitching ease.

It is pictured here in white along the hem of a skirt.

Click on picture to enlarge and you can see how I've woven embroidery floss through the holes of the entredeux part of the  Swiss Edging.

For details on how to do this see Entredeux Embellishments on my blog.

This is the dress the hem belongs to.

This is a Fancy Lace Hem that is finished in the Champage Swiss Edging.

It belongs to my New pattern (ready in May) French Acadian Sundress.

Swiss Edgings that have the edging along one side and entredeux on the other  make a wonderful (and quick) finish to a Dress or Daygown.  They sew onto the fabric just like Entreduex…and your done!

30 Minutes of Fun

I take the message on this bag seriously!

Today was a busy day, but I took 30 minutes to stitch on my Son #2's Quilt

I started his quilt in 2012, and have a bit completed.  This project was put aside as other things popped up.  And he didn't seem in any hurry for it, so I wan't either.

That changed when I gave Son#1 his quilt recently.

Son #2 started asking me where was the quilt I was making him.  I am so excited about that!!!  Sometimes I wonder if my kids are just being polite or do they really want what I am making them.

So this Red Quilt is out on my Sewing Table.
I love sewing on it.

I love sewing especially for someone.
Someone special to me.

And I am having extra fun because I am using my Mom's old Featherweight machine.
It reminds me of her.

Turns out, you can do a lot in 30 minutes.
Two completed squares and bits and pieces put together, ready to make more squares.

I love the timer feature on my Phone.

I encourage you all to take 30 minutes today and just sew something!

Quilt Top Ready to be Quilted!

My quilt top and backing are sitting on The Happy Quilter cutting table!

I love the feeling when I am done with a project.
Especially one that has gone on for well over a year!!!

It is satisfying to be working on a long term project and finally get to the end,  happy with the results.

This is the Border that finished this  quilt top.

By the way….a long term project is NOT a Baby Dress you start, then  stick in your closet for two years!

Although it could be a Baby Dress that you work on  every few weeks, loving stitches sewn in slowly, until it's done in two years.  I need that continuity of stitching.

It's just rewarding.

This is the design that will be stitched all over my quilt, stitching together my top, back and the batting sandwiched in between.  It actually reflects some of the old fashioned flowers on the fabric in the quilt.

I saw it done on Charlene's own quilt and it was very pretty.

Charlene will quilt it on her Long Arm Quilting machine.
Then I bind it.

THEN…I can give it to my Granddaughter.
Can't wait!

Special Buttons For Sale - Circa 1920"s

Antique Mother of Pearl Buttons for Sale.
Circa 1920's

I am posting things on my Blog that I have been finding as I'm cleaning up and opening boxes.

These are treasures…I didn't know I had them (except the few in my personal..NOT FOR SALE drawer).

This is what I have.  They were hand sewn on a card.
Twenty Four on a card.  Two Dozen.

They are 1/4" Mother of Pearl Shanks.

My Button Man, who is no longer living, was wonderful. He loved Buttons and could talk about them forever.  His Grandfather started the business.  He was in his 80's when he was telling me his stories.

He told me he remembered his mother sitting at the kitchen table when he was a boy, sewing these buttons onto the cards.

Years ago he sent me 300 card.  This is what is left.

Each card sells for $15.00 on my Web Site.

Amber's Quilt Label

The most fun I have with quilting is making the label for the back of the Quilt.

I embroidered this label, using Floche.  The little bird is Shadow Embroidery.  You'll find him on page 19 of my book Jeannie B's Book of Heirloom Embroidery Designs & Stitches.

I should have had the quilt finished but didn't make my deadline.

Well, stuff happens!

My Sewing Room - Multi Functional

I love it when the sun shines just right and hits the crystals I have hanging in the window of my Sewing Room.

This is my view out of my Sewing Room window when I am on my Elliptical Exercise Machine.

The other views are the project I'm working on and other delightful sewing things .
It's a nice place to be.

I used to faithfully work on this  machine for 30 minutes a day, and I felt much better for it.

I am back to it!
