Button Cookies!!

When serving  lunch for Old Fashioned Baby Sewing Ladies, Button Cookies were on the menu.

Perfect in their Button Jar!!

I found this idea on Pinterest.  And loved it.

This is what you do....

I made Shortbread, but you can make  Sugar Cookies if you want.

Cut them into round cookies, then use something a little smaller to make a slight indention. (I used the little cup that comes with cough medicine)

Sprinkle sugar on them and use a straw to make the holes in the buttons.
I made both the two hole buttons you see here and 4 hole buttons.

Too Cute!

Put a couple in a little bag to give away to each guest.

Sewing In My Garden!

This beautiful piece of embroidery was stitched by a student who came to my home to sew.

I loved seeing them sitting in my garden stitching before class!

Each lady had their sewing in their lap.

Enjoying the great natural light.

And the lovely flowers in bloom.

And of course, enjoying each others company!!

The pattern includes over 50 embroidery designs.

Her stitching is exquisite!!

Cute Yoke Treatment!

This is another cute Feltman Brothers Dress found at the local hospital gift shop.

I think this is a very nice yoke treatment.

Love the overlay.

Ten Thousand Stitches

This is a vintage set of Pillowcases and Dresser Scarf on my bed and nightstand.
I love them!!

In a recent conversation with a friend, she was telling me about a book she read.

I don't think it was ever even used!  They must have saved it for "special"!
Lucky for me, I guess.

The book was about talented people, such a sports figures in the hall of fame....etc.

I love the pretty colors and how the Running Stitch was done in black.
And love the machine hemstitched edge with a crochet finish!

The idea that these people are just born to fame and expertise was challenged.

More than one strand of floss was used for the embroidery which makes it more durable for wash and wear...an important consideration for bed linens.

It was pointed out in the book that the superb baseball player, for instance, had batted or pitched 10,000 times to perfect his skill.  It wasn't done overnight.

It's always nice to look at the back side to see how someone else carries (or doesn't carry) the threads from stitch to stitch.

The point I am making this morning is:  Talent can influence how well or how easy your stitches will be but it still takes 10,000 stitches to perfect your technique!

The other lesson here is:
Use your "special" things yourself or someone you don't even know will be using them after you are gone.

Taking Pictures of a Bonnet

This bonnet is from the class "French Acadian Christening Bonnet".
I had to take pictures of class projects to update my Saga class files.
So, I headed to my garden for better light.

This bonnet was fashioned after many of the Christening Bonnets in South Louisiana.

I took liberties by adding a little color in this bonnet.

It is made by hand.  Pure pleasure in the stitching.
Nothing hard about it.

It features tiny pin tucks, hemstitching, featherstitching, pretty lace and fine fabric.
This lace is not available anymore
but there are many other pretty laces to be had!

Stepping back from my bonnet to show you my garden.

The flowers are blooming ..
life is good in my little garden!

Happy flowers to you.
