You can choose to make the Baby Dress length or the Baby Gown length.

This beautiful Christening Gown was made by an amazing  customer.

Make the Christening Gown if you'd like.  It's all up to you!

This class is all about beautiful Machine French Sewing, Construction of the garment and Hand Embroidery.  This lovely garment will go together like magic as you are taught the fine methods used to make it.

Saga 2016 - Featherstitching 101

Last Friday,  I was excited to be teaching  Featherstitching.

It's just the best stitch ever….

If you click to enlarge the photo, you will see it stitched along the edge of the French Acadian Sundress.  When stitched using a floss that is the same color as the fabric, it adds subtle beauty.

When you Featherstitch in a contrasting color Floss it really makes a design statement.

In the case  of the Featherstitching on the Bonnet above, you can see the single Featherstitch and the Old Fashioned Double Featherstitch look quite different but go together so well.

"If  you were to learn just one embroidery stitch, 

I would urge it to be the Feather Stitch"

Saga 2016 - Handsewn Baby Clothes

Saturdays class was fun.

All about hand sewing Baby Clothes!

I will have more pictures of this little dress in the future because I will offer it as a pattern. It's very, very sweet!

Saturday Night was the Banquet.  I love, love, love to be together in a room full of women like me.  Who love to sew!!

Saga 2016 - Embroidery For Babies

This was my Friday morning class (one week ago today).

Embroidery adds a personal touch to anything you make.

It's like your signature.  It's yours! It's unique! And it's beautiful!

Below you will see some pretty examples.

My advice to you:  

See the beauty in what you stitch today. 

It's a journey.

Saga 2016 - Fine Hemstitching on a Daygown

I love this Daygown with a contrast sleeve band attached with the Hand Hemstitch.

Last Thursday at the Saga Convention I was teaching this class.

The pattern is Baby's First Daygown.

If you click on the photo to enlarge it, you can see where the Bias Neck Binding is stitched to the Daygown using the Pinstitch.  It's another pretty stitch with many applications.

In this Bonnet you can see the Hemstitching.  Click to enlarge.    The front band and also a tuck is attached with the Hemstitch.

The Bonnet is a reproduction of an antique. 

 There is a kit available so you can make it exactly like mine.  

The pattern is Miss Bufords Bonnet.

This Baby Gown is from another class.

The pattern is  Baby Layette.  But I don't have the class instructions as a kit.

Lace has been attached to the yoke using the Hemstitch.

At the bottom of the Gown, there is Hemstitching which is pretty and old fashioned.

Hemstitching is something I love to do. 

 It's relaxing to stitch and beautiful to look at.

Teaching at It's Sew Heavenly in November

This fall I will be teaching for It's Sew Heavenly.

We will be stitching a beautiful French Acadian Christening Gown with a matching Bonnet.

This lovely Gown will be made using  our Sewing Machines for French Machine Sewing and Construction but we will learn lovely hand embellishments.

Baby Emma Sleevless Dress Class

The class I am teaching at Farmhouse Fabrics will feature this sweet little Baby Dress as the project.

The pattern is my "Emma's Smocked Baby Dresses".  But we won't be smocking it.

I created a sleeveless version, perfect for Spring and Summer.

We will make a matching slip with the hand Shell Hem finish.

I love the way Baby Emma is a yoke in the front but has Tucks in the back.

The hem design was created for this class and the lace can be machine pin stitched onto the dress if your sewing machine is capable.

The underarm tucks create a little additional fullness in the skirt.

We will be Hemstitching Lace to Fabric and adding a Lace Frill to the front yoke.

Embroidery will include my favorite, Featherstitching,  along with the Tiny Chain, Fly Stitch, Granitos and Bullions.

It's a lovely Baby Dress and my students will progress in their sewing skills as we have fun sewing together!

Toddler Summer Dresses pattern.

I love this dress!

The Yoke features Lace Edging attached to Swiss Insertion.

I teach this dress as a class for Guilds and shops.

It's a great class.  There is a tucked Yoke and Skirt on wonderful fabric.  The Swiss Trim is rolled and whipped to the hem.  And You learn about construction of a sleeveless Yoke dress with special techniques such as a hidden seam at the yoke embellished with Swiss Beading.

This dress includes my favorite embroidery stitch -

 Featherstitching along with Old Fashioned Bullion Roses.

This is the fancy version of Toddler Summer Dresses.  Perfect for Easter, Summer Birthdays or Beach Pictures.

My Feb. Week of Sewing - Day 1

I have been working on my March class for Farmhouse Fabrics.  

We are making a sleeveless Baby Dress.  Because the pattern we are using (Emma's Smocked Baby Dresses) has sleeves, I have adjustments to make.

This scripture can center my life on difficult days.

I don't like to cut through the scriptures that are doodled on my patterns.

You never know when you might need the encouragement.

You are gonna love this dress!!

Chicago Retreat - Sharing The Love

A student is tracing the design on my Fine Embroidery on a Baby Dress class.

Day Two (and the morning of Day Three) were spent in the class room.  Which is the primary purpose of the Saga Retreat - learning and perfecting stitches and techniques.  Because the focus of Saga is really about Sharing the Love of Smocking and Fine Sewing.

So the class room is where it's all happening during the day!

But at night we have all kinds of fun!

The pretty Basket Ladies!!

If one of these ladies came to you, at your table, it meant... 

YOU WON A BASKET!!

This White Work Basket is to die for!

And a great many tickets went toward this hand stitched beauty.

I offered a Basket too, full of wonderful Mother of Pearl Buttons.

You can be sure that each of the Baskets went to a loving home!  (although none of them went to my own home)

We had pretty Table Favors to delight us. And each of use got to take these home.

It is so kind of the Guilds who spend alot of time and effort making them for us.

They were much appreciated.

It is so much fun to be with a group of ladies who share your love of sewing.

And are fun to be with.

And are just so darn nice!

Friday we will doing some serious stitching!

On the finest Linen fabric using Coton a Broder and stranded cotton threads.

Granitos, Padded Satin, Seed, Chain, French Stem stitch and the Outline/Stem Stitch.

Teaching at The Smock Shoppe

I was happy to teach my Antique T-Yoke Dress and Gown again!

This time the class was in Dothan, Alabama.

I was teaching for The Smock Shoppe. 

One of my favorite shops to visit.

Lots of great Machine stitching.

Learning to attach lace to fabric.

And hand basting the lace in place because …some things are just better by hand.

This group was excited to work on their gowns and barely wanted to stop for lunch!
