Pink Baby Rose Dress

Tucks and Pinstitch by sewing machine (Pfaff Creative 2144)
This is the yoke of View 2 Baby Rose.

Baby Rose pattern was named after my youngest Granddaughter Emma Rose.
Because it's a raglan style dress, it doesn't have much shape until you put it on a child and they it fits so wonderfully!! You will want to make everything raglan style.

I added lace insertion to the sleeve to fancy it up!  Do you notice the entredeux used between the sleeve and the dress front?  It's very pretty and so easy on a raglan style dress.

Lace insertion at the hem right over where the dress is hemmed.  And a bit of embroidery above it.  I didn't cut away the fabric from behind the lace and it is not only pretty but very stable!
To see more about lace click on The Different Looks of Lace.

Bullion Rosebuds at the base of the lace insertion on the bodice.

That's all for now!

Grandmother Woodford's Quilt

It hangs in Pride of Place in her home.
This quilt was made especially for my Mother In Law by her Mother, Cora.

The fabric strips were not equal widths.
The fabrics were scraps saved and then used for this quilt.
The catch all phrase today is re-purposed.

I just like to think of them as old scraps of fabric.

Each square is made up of 4 unequal strips. I really like that they are not of equal width.  It makes the quilt look more random but of course they are each carefully done so they fit together nicely.  Then they are sewn together with each square (or block) turned to give it interest.

And I love the brown fabric.
My Father was in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.  I have never seen this fabric before.

I am always fascinated by the creative bent of other women.  Especially one who is related to me or to someone I love.  I wonder what she was thinking as she stitched. Was she thinking of her love for her daughter who would receive this quilt.   Did she smile as she thought of the pleasure of giving it to her?

This was the last thing she made which makes it extra special.

A piece of the past mingling with the future.

"Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God gives you."
Exodus 20:12

p.s.  If you don't have a Mother and Father to honor... then honor someone else's!!

Baby Rose and Pretty Embroidery in White.

I am teaching again for Sew Heavenly in November.
We are in the process of deciding  what I will  teach.

Brenda is thinking she would like to use my  Baby Rose pattern. I think it is a good choice for a two day class.  Construction, lace and embroidery.

I might teach Bermuda Fagotting.  That is the technique you see above...the tiny holes.  I love that look.

Along with looped Bullion flowers.  And lace insertion applied to fabric.  There are so many sweet things to teach and to learn.    It's just hard to narrow down what can be done in two days!

Summer Roses.

My Roses are lovely!  These are Elsie May Roses.

Katy Road Pink- given me by a Friend.
And growing happily in my Garden.

My Brown Dog on the wrong side of the back door.

Whichever side of the door that I am on is the right side of the door.
He's such a sweet Dog.

His  eyes are the color of Burnt Sugar.  I like that.

Last year I designed and stitched Daygowns all summer long.  It was such a wonderful summer!  And my intention was to print the pattern soon after. But, I was busy doing other things and am only now finishing up the pattern.

This pattern will include two sizes:  Infant and a New Born Take Me Home size.

I love slips that match Daygowns.
I have drafted the Take Me Home size slip and am busy stitching it up.

Just to make sure everything goes together right!

There is a Hand Stitched Shell Hem at the neck.

I am just stitching a narrow hem at the underarms.  Takes less time.

I absolutely love this Daygown pattern!

Won't be too long now before I am ready to send it off to the printer as I am hard at work!!

Sewing Bowl??

Pretty little enamelware bowl.
While I was having fun peeking in Antique Shops with a Friend, I found this cute little bowl.  It was love at first sight!!  I have a fondness for bowls and also for enamelware.

I have moved it from room to room, enjoying it.  I want it in every room so I can see it all the time!!

So, it made it's way to my sewing room.  I have put handsewing tools that I am useing to sew the tatting on this little Daygown.  Easy to pick up and carry with me.

Are the Roses beautiful?

For the moment, it a Sewing Bowl!

Little Smocked Bonnets.

This little Smocked Bonnet is for Wee Care.
The Bonnets are for babies in need.

I made three.
Another place they go is Threads of Love.

And really, I would say the Bonnets are for parents in need.

My friend Lorraine serged the edge of the Bonnets with pink thread.
She used a rolled hem and regular sewing thread.
I really like the way the soft ruffle looks.

This ministry is close to my heart.

And I put three Rosebuds  across the top.

I will tell you why this ministry is important to me in another post.
 Later.

My Favorite Colors in Anchor Floss.

Someone asked me to post my favorite Anchor Baby Colors.
These are some of my favorites
The Blue Featherstitchin is #120 and the Pink Rosebuds are #48 with either #1042 or #213 Green leaves.

The #1037 is a softer blue and the #271 is a softer pink.  Good for new baby clothes!

Here is my work table as I am packaging the floss.

I usually take the packs with me when I teach but had not gotten round to putting them on my blog.
This request was the incentive I needed.

For several different packs of my favorite floss go Here!

Reilly is really as unfriendly as he looks!  He's just old.
But he loves me.

Cute Sewing Box.

I love this Sewing Box!!
And it's mine!

A Friend and I went out for an afternoon of fun.  And our kind of fun often involves going to Antique Stores.

I had seen this Sewing Box the last time I visited this little shop.  It was still there, just waiting for a home.

But the price was too high for me.  So, I just asked if he could change the price to one I couldn't resist.  And he did!!

I can't wait to stock it but I need to give it a good clean first.

See this handy little area to stash thread and needles in?
Who could have resisted.

So the Happy Ending is.....this little Sewing Box has a proper sewing home.

I love Happy Endings!

Miss Carole's Crochet Baby Blanket Part 3 - Shell Stitch

For Lesson One...
For Lesson Two...

This is how Carole  makes her Shell's around her blankets.

Carol's pretty Shell's.

*NOTE - This is not a Crochet Lesson.  She is giving instructions for those who already know how to crochet.

You will need to find Beginning Crochet Instructions to learn to Crochet.

The row of Shell's begins after the first two rows are completed (see previous lessons). If you are changing colors, tie on here.  The Shells will be row three.

Step 1.  Work the scallops from the WRONG side of the blanket (you will be working in the opposite direction).

Step 2.  For the first scallop only:  Chain 4; work three double crochet (dc) chain 1 combinations and one double crochet in the same single crochet as you began your chain 4.  (first Shell made)

Step 3. Skip four single crochets. In the next single crochet work 4 double crochet, chain 1 combinations and  one double crochet without  the chain one after it.   Repeat Step 3 around the entire blanket and join the thread from the first scallop by working a slip stitch between the top of your original chain 4 and the loop in your hook.  Tie off in a secure knot and weave the long ends carefully into the finished work.  This blanket will be a favorite so be sure that is one SECURE knot!!
Use a cute little holder when putting your work away.

Very pretty with two colors!

Pink Smocked Baby Clothes!

Pink!!

This might be the first little dress I made when I was designing my Smocked Baby Clothes pattern.

I used old laces and didn't embroider the hem as I have done on the others.

It has been worn and worn by Granddaughters so it has that soft, loved look.

And my cat in a box.  Taking it easy, as cats will do.

Happy Pink Saturday.
