Baby Rose Dress Details

I used a Champagne color for the lace. It looks so nice with the pale green fabric!

The sleeve is finished with entredeux, baby lace beading and gathered lace edging.

Ribbon is threaded through the beading. The beading works well because you can adjust the ribbon to fit the little arm as baby grows.

This embroidery was created for a class I taught.

There is an embroidery design that is included in the pattern which is similar.

This photo of a different fabric and lace (but same dress) shows the openwork stitch which was a feature in the class I taught.

The sleeve was attached to the dress using entredeux.

Baby in Green Baby Rose Dress

My Granddaughter, Londyn, is wearing OFB pattern Baby Rose Raglan Dress View 1.

The fabric is sheer mint green Swiss Fairy Fabric.

She is pleased to show you that she is indeed, wearing a slip under her pretty little dress.

(as is only proper)

This Raglan Dress is the perfect fit for Baby and will fit longer and better than a Yoke Dress.

Baby Rose View 2 with Scalloped Hem

Just changing the color of the fabric can make a big difference in the way a Baby Dress looks!

White is the classic color of Baby clothes. Add a touch of pink embroidery and nothing is sweeter.

This dress has to be one of my all time favorites.

I made it for an article in Sew Beautiful magazine with the focus being - how to draft a Madeira Hem. This dress has the scalloped hem in the front but a plain hem in the back. What my friend calls a "Queen Ann front with a Mary Ann back".

I'm sorry but I don't know which issue this was in.

If any one of you knows, please tell.

The sleeve is attached with entredeux.

It is also embellished with Maline Lace and embroidery.

The fabric is Swiss "Fairy Fabric". The fabric actually had a #number to identify it but I thought this little dress looked like the fairies did indeed make it using such a sheer lovely fabric so I named it thus.

This dress is a beauty!

Pink Baby Rose View 2

Today I will show my pattern "Baby Rose Raglan Dresses" - View 2

Still a fancy little Baby Dress but totally different than View 1.

I am using Pink fabric.

Bear Threads Pink Swiss Lawn is a good choice for this dress.

Other fabrics I recommend are Swiss Fairy Fabric and Bearisima 2.

All are lovely shades of soft pink.

The feature on this dress is the collection of tucks, lace and embroidery at the top of the Baby Dress.

Groups of tiny sets of tucks have lace insertion between them and the fabric is slightly gathered at the neck.

Delicate but very sweet.

Accented with Featherstitching and Bullion Rosebuds.

In the above picture, you can see that I did not cut the fabric away from behind the lace. This makes the dress less transparent and gives it a pretty old fashioned look.

The dress is also much more durable.

Any time you cut the fabric from behind the lace, it is going to be a more fragile garment.

I added Lace Insertion to the sleeve which is included in the pattern directions (again, fabric is intact behind the lace) and I attached the sleeve using Entredeux. This was easy because of the raglan sleeves.

Entredeux always fancies up a dress!

The Baby Dress has a turned up (to the back) hem, with Lace Insertion placed just at the top where the hemming line would be. Embroidery is centered above the lace.

I like to put a label inside my Baby Dresses.

Baby will be well and smiling and ..

Baby Rose View 1

I am going to post pictures, showing you my Patterns and designs every week through out this new year. You might have seen some of these pictures, but probably not all of them. I hope you enjoy the pictures and you are inspired to sew more Baby clothes this year.

Baby Rose View 1

The Baby Dress pictured above is from my pattern "Baby Rose Raglan Dresses"

This Dress is one of the three styles in the pattern which was named after my youngest Granddaughter Emma Rose.

For this particular Baby Dress, I chose a soft mint green Swiss Fairy Fabric with an off white lace.

Other fabrics to consider are Pima Batiste or Pima Lawn as well as Swiss Batiste Nelona weight or a Swiss Lawn. For this view you will need 3/4 yard of fabric.

For this view I do like the sheer fabric, with a slip under it.

View 1 is elegant with the lace embellishment and embroidery down the center front. The Baby Dress that inspired this View was a short Christening Gown.

I have cut the fabric away from behind the lace. I used lace scissors to do this because they have round nibs at the tips to prevent you from accidentally snipping your lace (ugh!! the very thought gives me shivers).

Because this Dress was used for a Class I taught, there are different embroidery stitches than are called for in the pattern. I made Looped Bullion Flowers instead of all Bullion Rosebuds.

Something to remember about embroidery is that you can make the design unique to you. If you don't like stitching Bullions, then use a different stitch. It will still be pretty and you will enjoy it more.

Look at the line of openwork in the picture above. This stitch goes by different names. I call it Bermuda Faggoting. I substituted it for the Featherstitching that the pattern calls for because I wanted to teach it in my class. The Dress is pretty with either stitch.

I attached the raglan sleeve with Baby Entredeux. It fancies the Dress up and is easy peasy to do on a raglan sleeve. It's the little extra things you do to a garment that make it so special. And that is the reason we sew.
