Londyns Closet - Slip Dress

Baby Londyn was at the Beach for her 8 Month photo.
The chosen "Beach Dress" is the slip from my pattern Baby Daydresses.

Slips make the best summer Dresses for a baby.

They are cool and comfortable and can be embellished in so many ways.

Pretty embroidery at the neck using one strand embroidery floss and a fine needle.

The slip features a ruffle at the hem and Bullion Rosebuds just above.  I've added Swiss Beading with pink ribbon woven through.   And, Gathered Lace edging is featured along the top to give it a that little extra touch that makes it stand out.

Then a good washing to get all the sand off and let it dry in the sun.

And back in Londyns closet.....

So she  can wear it again.

Teaching For The Midnight Oil Smocking Guild

Midnight Oil Smockers - a Chapter of the Smocking Arts Guild of America

I had such an enjoyable weekend teaching for the Midnight Oil Smockers in Houston, Texas.

They were a busy group!

Tucking, tucking, tucking.  And learning about stitching tucks into a block.

Then how to cut out the sleeves and Bonnet from the tucked fabric.

Stitching lace insertion between the tucks.  And lace to lace.  Lots of fun stitching.

We talked about the difference between threads and how you need to use a fine cotton thread when stitching lace to…anything.

We used Madeira #80

We used Baby Daydresses Revised.

To make this darling little dress!

I am waiting for another group picture of everyone holding their compleated dress!

It can be done!

Baby Rose View 2 with Scalloped Hem

Just changing the color of the fabric can make a big difference in the way a Baby Dress looks!
White is the classic color of Baby clothes.  Add a touch of pink embroidery and nothing is sweeter.

This dress has to be one of my all time favorites.

I made it for an article in Sew Beautiful magazine with the focus being - how to draft a Madeira Hem.  This dress has the scalloped hem in the front but a plain hem in the back.  What my friend calls a "Queen Ann front with a Mary Ann back".

I'm sorry but I don't know which issue this was in.
If any one of you knows, please tell.

The sleeve is attached with entredeux.
It is also embellished with Maline Lace and embroidery.

The fabric is Swiss "Fairy Fabric".  The fabric actually had a #number to identify it but I thought this little dress looked like the fairies did indeed make it using such a sheer lovely fabric so I named it thus.

This dress is a beauty!

Stitching In The Foothills - Saga Guild Fun!!

They surprised me with a signed and framed copy of this photo!  Sweet!!
The Ozark Foothills Saga Chapter (and me) at
Stitching in The Foothills.  A wonderful sewing Retreat!

They were serious listeners.

 And serious stitchers.  By machine....

Photo of a student hemstitching her Daydress.
....and by hand.

Lots of progress made in class!

I was pleased to meet the illustrator of Sarah Howard Stones "French Handsewing" books.
Ta Da! Lenice shows me her work in progress.

This is the dress we were making.

We were warm and happy stitching in this large and bright room, as the snow fell gently outside our window!  I loved it.

And right next to our sewing room was the lunch room.
Where we sat together and were served yummy food and treated like queens!

Nice!
More fun to come at  Sewing In The Foothills next post...

Prparing To Teach at the Smock Shoppe...

This is the Baby Dress we will be stitching at the Smock Shoppe in Dothan, Alabama.

There is much to be done when I go away to teach a class.
The class is just under 3 weeks away.
I hope you can come!

I have to pull a thread to cut each piece of Linen for this Baby Dress.  Measure the lace and trim, count out Mother of Pearl buttons, then put it all nicely in a kit bag.

All ready to begin stitching!

I know I told you.  I love this little Dress.  Love the hemstitching.  Love the Bullions.  Love the lace.  Love the neat hem technique.  Just love it all!

And I am happy that I will be teaching it again in Arkansas for "Stitch'n In the Foothills".

The slip design  has Whip Tucks (Overhand Tucks) on it.

A pretty embellishment!

A Very Good Idea!

Suzette is working on this dress.
This is Baby Daydresses View 3 in progress.
The fabric is Swiss Batiste (Nelona weight).

This is the embroidery on the dress. It's beautifully done.

You can see the blue marks where she traced off the dress, if you look close.  But she went a step farther.  She machine stitched along the "lace placement line" and the front neck line of the dress.  The machine stitching gives the fabric extra support when embroidering, especially if you like to use a hoop.

A very good idea!

Pink Roses in My Work Room.

Even on my messy work table the Pink Roses stand out.
I am in the throes of preparing for the classes I am teaching at SAGA National Convention in Anaheim, California.  It will be great fun for everyone.  You can come too.

I need my dress in front of me for reference as I get my samples together and go over my class outline.
There's alot to do.  And this is a two day class  which means there is two days worth of preparing.  But I love two day classes.  They are more relaxed and conducive to learning for students.

This particular Lace/Embroidery design is not in the pattern, it's part of the class.
If any of my students are reading this post....the pattern you need is Old Fashioned Baby Daydresses.    If you call me, I can bring one to Convention for you.  It can be the older version of Daydresses or the Revised that is on my website.  We will be using View 1, Small.

We will be Hemstitching. (notice the pink Roses!)
Very Old Fashioned Baby!

Hemstitching on the Sleeve is a very pretty touch.
And more Pink Roses.

But nowhere as lovely as the REAL thing!

This Rose is called Katy Road Pink or Carefree Beauty.  It does look pretty happy and carefree, doesn't it?

And Levi the cat is lurking about.

Don't you think he looks a little arrogant?

He is!

This is my Pink Saturday post.

White Wednesday - Baby Slip Dress

My Baby Slip Dress featured in the latest Sew Beautiful magazine.
Made using my pattern "Baby Daydresses"

I've always liked slips as dresses!
I finished the neck and armholes with a self facing (just turned the fabric over twice to make a narrow hem).

Then gathered up some baby lace edging and I whipped it to my Slip Dress

The embroidery design is from my Jeannie B. embroidery book on page 38.

And pretty pink Silk Satin Bows at the shoulder.

A sweet ruffle at the hem.

With pretty Bullion Rosebuds stitched just above the ruffle.

This is my White Wednesday along with Faded Charm.  Come along on a fun tour!
