Londyn in Pink!

Today, Miss London is wearing my French Acadian Sundress made in pink.

It is the 9 Month size.

It is fashioned after the sundresses made in South Louisiana for so many years.

The originals were all made by hand but I used a sewing machine.

Except for the embroidery and finishing.

She is such a doll!

Baby Summer Clothes Diaper Shirt

Londyn is so silly!

My pattern "Baby's Summer Clothes" has been reprinted three times because it is just so darn cute!

If you look close you can see the Shadow Embroidered Chickie that has been a part of the pattern since the beginning. 

There are several different garment/styles in the one pattern.

There is a bubble that goes under this Diaper Shirt but Londyn  frequently wears Fancy Pants with it.

I have learned so much about practical and pretty baby clothes since Londyn was born.

Baby's can not crawl in dresses! They just can't.  We were always tucking the hem in her ruffled panties or tieing it up behind her back.

The Diaper Shirt is perfect for the crawling baby.  She can move around unencumbered by her clothing.  And still be adorable!

Laundry Day!

I usually wash and press some of Londyn's Baby Clothes on the days that I take care of her.

On this day I decided to wash and starch a whole bunch  of them and that required some place to hang them.  The front porch was perfect for it.  The rod that held hanging baskets seemed made to order for this purpose.

I used liquid starch and dunked them thoroughly before squeezing the excess starch out.

The little Bishop in the front is a vintage dress I have had for along time, planning to copy it.

The well worn fabric of this vintage beauty washes beautifully.

Londyn looks adorable in it!

One of my all time favorite patterns is "Emma's Smocked Baby Dresses".  This is a pale blue Dotted Swiss fabric from Capitol Imports.  It's delicious!  Unfortunately this pattern is almost out of print and is only available in my Web Shop.

It is very satisfying to leave a closet full of neatly pressed dresses for Londyn.

(I adore ironing baby clothes!)

I am so lucky my children love to dress her in them.

What a sweetie she is!!

The Featherstitching and Seedstitch is worked between the raglan sleeves before it is gathered.

When the fabric is pulled up, it has a sweet and subtle design.

Featherstitching is also worked along the seam of the sleeves.

The hem was stitched in place using embroidery floss to match the embroidery on the dress. It is a Running Stitch but made a bit larger so it will show up.

Here is the dress laid out flat.

It looks so much more amazing when a baby wears it.

There is a kit available with a nice Lawn, Lace, Entredeux and Embroidery Floss.

Londyn Wearing "Baby Rose Raglan Dresses View 3"

This is the cutest Baby Dress ever!

It is so simple and so Old Fashioned Baby.

Londyn is 9 Months old and the Infant  size fits her beautifully.

Infant fits to 18 lbs (and she is 17lbs).

Londyn is such a happy girl.

The raglan sleeves make such a difference in fitting a baby.  It's comfortable and looks good on all sizes.

Baby Rose Raglan Dresses View 3 has Featherstitching and Seed Stitch as a simple embellishment to the front.  The front is embroidered before it is gathered up to fit the neck, giving the Featherstitching a slightly different look.

Baby Rose Dress Details

I used a Champagne color for the lace. It looks so nice with the pale green fabric!

The sleeve is finished with entredeux, baby lace beading and gathered lace edging.

Ribbon is threaded through the beading. The beading works well  because you can adjust the ribbon to fit the little arm as baby grows.

This embroidery was created for a class I taught.

There is an embroidery design that is included in the pattern which is similar.

This photo of a different fabric and lace (but same dress) shows the openwork stitch which was a feature in the class I taught. 

The sleeve was attached to the dress using entredeux.

Baby in Blue

Notice Londyn now has hair!!!

Baby Londyn visits the French Quarter in NOLA for the first time.

And she is dressed in Old Fashioned Baby's "Emma's Smocked Baby Dresses".

Baby is 7 months old in this photo and it fits her perfectly.  The pattern is sized Infant to  6 Months (18 lbs.). 

This picture was taken two or three months ago in this same dress.

Made from Capital Imports Dotted Swiss.

Baby Londyn in Pink Smocked Daygown

If you think I have gone soft in the head over this baby…..

you would be right.

She is wearing Old Fashioned Baby - Smocked Baby Clothes (which can be made without smocking simply by gathering the fabric instead of smocking it)

This Smocked Daygown appeared in Sew Beautiful Jan/Feb 2009 magazine and it gives the instructions for the Honeycomb Smocking you see.

I have just been waiting for a baby to wear it!!

Sweet Smocked Sleeves

Rosebuds embroidered on the collar.

Dainty Lace Edging is stitched on either side of the front opening.

(this is J lace, which is slightly changed now since they re-made it)

Here is Baby wearing it.  She had been wearing it all day but we don't mind the wrinkles.  

And I don't think you need to iron except for special Photos.

Still a little large on her. 

 At five weeks she is now 9 lbs and growing cubby.

A Really Cute Daygown

I made this little Daygown in a Jiffy!

I wanted something soft and cosy so I made it from a fine Pink Mico-check Flannel.  To make it very usable for Mom, I made a casing and inserted a soft elastic into it.

This pattern is  "Priscilla's Layette", which I love.

It has been out of print for a while but.. Hooray, I found a few hiding in the wrong box!

I have a kit in fine solid Blue Flannel for Boy Babies too!

Sorry, these patterns  are not available except in the Kit.

I embroidered a vintage inspired Kitten on the lower right side.

And I embroidered a spray of flowers between the first two buttons.  The hem is white Swiss Edging and I also made the neck binding out of a white fabric.

Pretty Baby Sleeping

Coming Home in a Special Gown

Every baby needs a special Gown when they come home from the Hospital!

I made this one specially for Londyn Marie.

This gown has many hand embellishments...  lovely embroidery and machine techniques to produce the Baby Gown I had envisioned!

I used my pattern "French Acadian Christening Gown" pattern and made it a shorter  Gown length.

Our Class at It's Sew Heavenly

Our wonderful group of Stitchers at It's Sew Heavenly.

Brenda is the Queen of everything  pretty and she had her Christmas decorations up for us to enjoy!

We did some serious and fun Heirloom Sewing.

The T-Yoke Dress or Gown (or Christening Gown) is the best class to get that confidence you need in Heirloom Sewing.

We learned how to join two fabrics together using lace.

As well as many other techniques.

And the students did a wonderful job!

Brenda and Lacie have already planned what their second Dress will look like. 

They are going with soft Blue Swiss Lawn.

The entire shop is lovely "Eye Candy" for the Heirloom Stitcher.

Beautiful garments hanging around to inspire you and delicious fabric crying out to be bought. 

This group knew each other so visiting  and chatting were always tempting but they were a hard working bunch too.

Button Frenzy!!

There was a limited supply of special Buttons for sale and everyone wanted them!!

They  shared. They divided the quantity between them all.

(One lady kept sewing, ignoring the Buttons entirely.  I told her I was surprised she wasn't interested and she said "I already told them to give me whatever  my friend is buying".  Ha Ha, she knows if her friend wants them, so does she)

Here is an example of the Baby Gown and Baby Dress. The pictured slip is from the pattern "Old Fashioned Baby Dresses" and the front was adapted to match the dress.  I made it for a magazine article several years ago.
