Hurry to….The Smock Shoppe Moving Out SALE!!

Mary and me.
The Smock Shoppe is closing it's Retail Doors.

And that means a BIG sale!!
And they are taking email and phone orders.

But hurry, it will be over this weekend!!

Linen fabric with hand worked Cutwork.
Mary acquired some wonderful pieces of hand embroidered fabric when a Dressmaking company went out of business.  The fabric was made large enough to cut sleeves and bodices as well as  hand embroidered hems.

When I was teaching for Mary recently, she pulled out these treasures that she has for sale.

This piece is lovely.  I think it will make a gorgeous  Toddler Summer Dress.

There are pieces in different sizes.

Off White and white.

She has a kit to make this Pillowcase Dress.

And there are different fabric styles.

The Smock Shoppe email is: thesmockshoppe@hotmail.com

For phone orders call: 334-793 8233

Better hurry because soon the sign will read…

I'm sure Mary will have fun sewing/teaching  plans for the future.
You will need to contact her to see!

Teaching at The Smock Shoppe

I was happy to teach my Antique T-Yoke Dress and Gown again!

This time the class was in Dothan, Alabama.

I was teaching for The Smock Shoppe
One of my favorite shops to visit.
Lots of great Machine stitching.

Learning to attach lace to fabric.

And hand basting the lace in place because …some things are just better by hand.

This group was excited to work on their gowns and barely wanted to stop for lunch!

(can you believe that?)

Great Heriloom Class in Dothan, Alabama

The Baby Dress from my pattern "Antique T-Yoke, Baby Dress and Christening Gown" is the project for the class I will be teaching in Dothan, Alabama.  Or you can choose to make the Gown.

I have modified the pattern slightly from the original for class, omitting the ruffle at the skirt so it is like the gown but a shorter length with puffed sleeves.

It is a beautiful dress that has some serious Heirloom Sewing Techniques.
The "T" yoke is the   yoke plus a panel that extends to the hem of the dress.  There are two gathered side panels that attach to the "T" yoke with lace.

Although this can be challenging, we will stitch it together in class  step by step in such a way that will give even the beginner excellent results.

It's exciting for me to see students who are amazed that they are easily able to make  such an exquisite garment as this!

I am teaching at
The Smock Shop

Teaching for The Smock Shoppe- The Sweetest Daygown

The sleeve of the Daygown had Featherstitching around it.
Mary had the sweetest little antique Daygown at The Smock Shoppe.

She told me I could share it with you!!

The sleeve was gathered by shirring it.

The Double Featherstitching was fine!

This little Daygown was of primary interest because of  the Whipped Tucks or Over Tucks as they are also called.  We were learning how to stitch them in class.

They were stitched on either side of the center front.

A close up peek of them, along with the pretty Featherstitching on the collar.

I love it when I have examples stitched on vintage garments.

Mary was a gracious hostess and I had a real good time!!

The End!

Teaching at The Smock Shoppe - Cute Clothes

While teaching at The Smock Shoppe a student brought in some pretty garments she had made.
These are the garments featured in the Sewing Booklet from the last post.

She made a Bonnet to match the Smocked Dress.

The fabric is Dotted Swiss and it is really yummy!!

This little Daygown is Sweet and Simple Daygown Collection.

I love that she embroidered between the Buttonholes.

Embroidered Raglan Daygowns is from a Daygown Sew Along I did on my blog.  It's still up on my blog so you can make one too!  Just follow the lesson plans.

She used the same Embroidered Raglan Daygown pattern and a design from my Embroidery Book on this daygown.  She added the hemstitching below the embroidery - teaching herself to hemstitch.  I really like this Daygown with the Hemstitching.

That was one reason she was taking this class.  To get some pointers on Hemstitching.

She added an embroidery design at the hem and really did a good job with proportion and placement too.

Smocked Baby Clothes Daygown is very pretty in this soft lavender fabric.

Thank you so much for bringing your garments!

We all enjoyed seeing them.  And we were inspired!!!

Teaching at The Smock Shoppe - Sewing Booklet

One of my Students at The Smock Shoppe brought in several lovely garments to show me.
Then, she pulled out this little book she writes in. I loved it!! She writes down the pattern she used as well as fabric, trims and prices.  She includes illustrations.

It is done like the old Mindon Sewing Booklets from the LSU Clothing Collection.

Well, you know I love the book cover!

This is "Sweet and Simple Bubbles and Bonnets"!

I am totally delighted with her booklet.

I keep a design booklet too so I will have information at hand regarding what I have done for different projects.  But, mine lacks the charm of this one.

Next post I will show you the pretty garments she brought!
